Studies have shown sharks are attracted to the underarm hair remover he uses.

This is hilarious considering I see you northerners (not all but a lot) sh!tting your pants posting about "shark sightings" up there. Then you belittle a guy who voted not to surf with effin great whites. Give me a break, you'd be scared too.

It's a wave that does not favor his kind of surfing. While an old fart like Tom Curren can paddle out there and get a 10 because the guy oozes style and wave knowledge, Medina is at a disadvantage in this venue against many of his counterparts who have better style and wave knowledge but lack Medina's explosive air game.

Actually J-Bay is my dream surf trip destination regardless of sharks. Wish it fit my budget. J-Bay is no more sharky than any number of other places people surf all the time.

I'm not sure about hair remover. I'm positive he uses his dad's jiz z as lotion for his face.

Not my question, and I'm not a northerner, but sure! TI, Atlantic Beach, Nags Head, Holden Beach, Caswell beach (well, I didn't surf there but I got in the water  )

I would surf J-Bay in heartbeat! The only reason I would be bummed about gabby not doing the j-bay contest is b/c I wouldn't have someone to root against.

Of all the places you named in NC, Holden is really the only one thats true. Granted there have been two bites in Atlantic Beach this month, it's still not sharky at all. And NH is easily the least sharky spot on the entire Outer Banks. Either way, having a run-in with a spinner or black tip and comparing it to cruisin around with whites at J-Bay is crazy.

Every spot is sharky in FL, as is some of the places you list. BUT, there is a huge difference between Florida sharky and South Africa sharky. We get more bites around here than anywhere in the world but most of the time it's minor. That place is chalk full of Great Whites, not little baby sand sharks, black tips, nurse sharks, etc. like around here, sure they are there I bet, but the GW's are at another level in that part of the globe.

It's an understandable concern. I give Mick a lot of credit for paddling back out there after his experience there. Takes a lot of balls and mental toughness to overcome that fear, and a legit fear that any one of us would have.

Yup. Bolinas, Dillon, and more than a dozen others in the Red Triangle are at least as Sharkey as anything in So. Africa, if not more. And just as big too, if not bigger.

Medina is just a whiny little pu$$

My leather cherrio would be a little tight paddling out there! I can understand some concern with the GW's, but if Mick can do it, so can I! HA

I'm with you on surfing J-Bay in a heartbeat... But nowhere on the east coast is as sharky as SA.

And he's not out of the contest

If he's still going to surf it, then I'd say that he's not as big a puss as it seems. Takes courage to do it anyways, even though you know you're scared of the possibilities.

He is still going... They polled all the surfers and he voted "no", but he is still going to be in the contest.
