    This^^^

A very good friend of mine almost died in Cabo rescuing a boy who got sucked out in a rip, and he's a strong swimmer too.

That is absolutely tragic. There are a lot of people that don't have the respect for the ocean that they should. Most of those poeple are on vacation and see the ocean once a year. It breaks my heart that these people lose their lives and additional folks are put in danger trying to rescue them.

Regardless of that. All I am saying is that i disagree with your tactique.

You "coming down" on frost is just awkward. Making him aware of the dangers to himself and others is what is important and there are several ways of doing this.

I guess he has been doing quite a bit of side stepping around the idea of learning to swim... It's never to late to learn. Suck up your pride like you did making this post and go get yourself some swim lessons.

Im no idiot, ive been 'learning the ocean' since I was 7, going out on boats, sand recon, watersports, golden showers, but I still dont know how to swim, and its ok, becasue other people will help me by putting their lives at risk

I have no regard for them, only my own selfish clueless behavior

does that sum it up frost?

I don't feel bad for for giving someone some verbal confidence to go learn something. I agree, he should learn to swim, but you know what, he is a grown adult. He knows his boundaries, if he ventures out of them, that is not my fault. I have never influenced him or told him to paddle out in cane size surf. frost is the one who made the comment about not missing any cane swells.

Your full of shot no man who knows those things about the ocean would teach his son to swim at a very young age

Just like me dad did for me and his grand puppy's did for him

Why don't you tell us your real name know so when reports of a drowning victim in VB come in we already know what happened

    bull fkn sh1t.
tough love and he is a 'grown man'. he needs to understand how sh1tty he is, this isnt a group hug or participation trophy, the ocean keeps it real as fvck and frost aint ready for it.......and he puts others lives on the line by his callous disregard for common sense.

    this thread pisses me off

Woah.... I don't like being in deep water and it'll be a long time before you catch me out over some kelpe bede or a 2-300 yards out. F no son.

But ****e man, not being able to swim and taking up surfing requires an astronomical amount of reckless balls. I almost tip my hat to you, be it not for all the other valid points made against how reckless of an idea it is.

Good luck. I would tell you to kill yourself but you're kinda on that path already so....

Really, I've only met one other person who cant swim... and he is black. Black people are like cats when it comes to water.

A strong undertow or a rip could knock you off your feet, a wave dumping hard in waist deep water could knock you down and hold you under.....that happened to me when I was a wee brat in the icy waters of Hampton Beach, so I learned to swim shortly afterwards.

IDK, it seems like you're resistant to the idea of learning to swim, and are trying to justify all the reasons why you don't need to.

But, hey, the forum has been kinda dull lately and you've really livened things up.

Yeah man prob is several people have nicely tried to show him this is a bad idea but instead of just saying "you're right guys and thanks for giving enough of a crap that you don't want me to drown, I think I'll go sign up for swim lessons" instead he's doubling down and trying to justify it.

The stuff about being on boats. So what, by the time I was 12 I was prepping for my captain's license. When me and my Dad went out he didn't have to do a thing except drink beer and catch fish. From dock to the gulf stream and back I had it under control. Plotting via LORAN and compass, monitoring the weather, blah blah blah. We've been out 25 miles off Cape Hatteras and thrown a rod in the engine. No panic, we got it working and limped back in.

And ya know what? Other than teaching me just how easily the ocean can kill you it has nothing to do with surfing. Big block V8 don't give a damn about riptides.

Frosty, listen to what the tractor man says, swallow your pride and learn to swim. There's absolutely NO reason not to, other than stubborn pride.
