Glad someone started this thread. That dude was the quintessential tall skinny surfer. Loved his style. Not the little rubber low center of gravity pro but a trim, glide, carve in the right place on the wave style. The way Joel Tudor surfs now, speed without pumping but with positioning and timing. He came in our shop in the early 2000's and was a great and humble dude. That coming from a guy who lived in SA at Jeffries Bay no less. From FL. From the place that Bruce Brown said had "crummy little waves". He really made the rounds. But I can't help but think that all that styrene from building surfboards all those years might have taken 20 yrs. from his life? Wonder how much he glassed? As I stick my finger in the glue once again....
MTB boards were the Lightning Bolts of the Florida east coast. They shredded and gave inspiration to Greg Luhr, Matt Kechle, and a whole slew of high performance shortboard shapers in the early to mid 70s. I though it was cool he bailed and went to J-Bay to live. RIP to a true ripper!
