That's sounds like the ticket. Will be interesting to see how it looks and rides. Especially since we're the exact same height and weight. My JB is a 7ft twin epoxy single striner and I hope to ride it for the first time next week. Enjoy!
There aren't alot of boardriders our size. There used to be a dude named Beef on here who was surfing at 6-3 375lbs. He was a strength athlete or something. Post a photo of that twin fin, I'd love to check it out.
Nice dude. I may ask you if I can take a wave or two next time I see you out there. Two more weeks approx on the new stick.
Picked up my mini a couple weeks ago. I have six sessions on it and I'm blown away. So responsive, fast as hell, wave catching machine. It feels like a flying saucer or something. Hard to explain. I wish I got one of these a long time ago.
totally agree. There are waves so small and weak, only a longboard could paddle into them...but a minisimmons-type board definitely fills a gap between those longboard only days and waves powerful/steep enough for a stub shortboard or fish. I also agree that these board are best with a twin keel or controller quad (which is just a big twin keel broken into 4 fins). When these boards are ridden with upright fins, they pivot better (near the takeoff), but lag at making maneuvers on the smaller/slower inside.
Jim Dunlop shaped it. I've had a few of his boards and been happy with all of em. This one is the most fun so far. I agree with a former post, this board won't totally replace the longboard but damn near. It's great in small stuff but is incredible in waist to chest high waves.
jim is making me one..same size...try the quartet set up..if you want a trip... fyi...i picked jonboy's copperfish 7.6 x 21 1/2 x 3 speedhull with that crazy bulletfin...it was unreal yesterday...surfed for 3 hrs straight both side of the pier..sorry for the mini hyjack
for those of you who ride mini simmons as a twin (FCS setup), try these fins. i've tried many different fins in mine- from keels, half moons, to the MR-TFX. these are by far my favorite. hold, drive, speed, and fun.
I heard from another guy that those MR's are sweet. Will have to check out. Thanks dpsup, hope to see ya in the water soon.
I use my big T1 twins with the controller trailers when the conditions are borderline too small for my stub...I've learned to just use the full controller set in any lesser conditions than that from my exp, yes, you should always use quad trailers with upright twins (not just a single center trailer) on an ultra wide tail board. The tail on a minisim is way too wide and needs a lot of fin...preferably spread out along the rail for best turning ability. I tried the twins w/out trailers on my sim and the board would not turn
