NYNJ, your 100% right. I honestly don't know why iv never been. Thing about Montauk is i can literally go any weekend, based solely off swell, last minute. That doesn't rule it out by any means. But i could do a trip out of state and do Montauk the next weekend if it looks like waves. I will be getting out there before summer. That's a for sure. DP...I'll definitely be coming to Florida in the near future. But considering the distance, that's not a weekend trip. Id like to get down there for a whole week. My ladies job actually does an annual trip down there. I'm jumping on board next time. Can't say no to free airfare and hotel. Right now Montauk and cape cod are on the top of the list. I'm liking Montauk because of the ability to go last minute and know I'll be getting surf. Liking cape cod because it seems a bit more desolate and "adventurous". At least as far as EC destinations go
NJ is another place iv taken many of day trips down too. Never stayed for a weekend. I do have a friend who owns a rental property in southern jerz. Never stayed but iv been offered to stay whenever i want. Atlantic city however I'm good on. I spend a few hours there and I'm over it
Go warm (ocmd is closed for cleaning ala wally world anyway). Second Brevard suggestion. Warm, decent chance of surf. Lots to do.
Newport RI is fun and do-able as a long wknd. Many B&Bs. Lots of good restaurants and shops in walking distance. Newport Storm Brewery is fun to check out. Mansion tours, cliff walk etc. Can walk to almost everything so no problem eating and drinking plenty. It's within striking distance of several good surf spots. One well known spot right there. I spend a long weekend there with my wife, and my sis and her husband once a year. I never go with surfing as a priority, but I always bring a board and gear. Sometimes I luck out, sometimes not. It's no more consistent than any east coast spots, but the breaks in the area offer variety and some different angles. Anyway, it's a fun place for a few days with the wife, and you could do worse. I usually go in Sep or Oct which helps my odds for getting some waves. Not sure how March would play out.
Thanks man. That well known spot you mentioned is the one iv been to on bigger days. It was always a drive up, surf, drive home sorta thing though so wasn't sure what the area offered non surf wise. And like you mentioned, I'm not going soley for waves. But if there are waves having a good spot or options near by would be awesome
No clue yet. Sometime before spring ends. Hopeful to time it around a good swell. My window for booking it will be very short - forecast dependent.
There will be NE swell but onshore wind will be an issue if forecast holds. I suggest you drive up to Fort Pierce if wind doesn't cooperate down South, should be more manageable there. Saturday there looks really fun.
Good looks, DSUP. Thanks for the heads up. Every time I'm down there this time of year, I feel like it's constantly wind chop and just a mess. I normally am not too picky given my place's proximity to the beach and lack of necessary rubber, but I do get sick of it constantly being blown out. I'll take knee high clean peelers, I don't care!
The Cove just south of the jetty and a 1/4 mile north of Reef Road proper will give you good shelter and sizeable surf this weekend (head high plus NE windswell - stay close to the jetty on the paddle out, then drift south, rinse repeat). 75 degree water.
Right on, I hear ya. Maybe what SIsurfdogg says would be a good option. You know that area better than me, so I'll defer to you, but my suggestion isn't a bad one if it's still not doing it at that spot.
I think SI's wind forecast is off. All my other references for this locale show onshores though not all that bad. That said, If it looks like SI's predictions will come true you can guess where I'll be on Saturday. How aboot an SI meet up there on Saturday? Betty will be regulating.
Betty the regulator! Suite! I would love to make it down this weekend but already have plans to visit the in-laws and my Dad, who was in a bad car accident a couple days ago, it was a miracle he survived. He's got a bad neck sprain, 5-6 broken / bruised ribs and 6-7 staples on the back of his head. Sorry to jack your thread Bassmon...
