The Cape Charles buoy is reading 4ft @ 8 seconds right now, down from around 5.9ft overnight. It's a lot bigger than the 1.5ft @ 8 seconds as predicted. Shouldn't today's forecast have updated last night when the swell was a lot bigger than previously forecast? I'm not going to specifically blame this site, as Surfline missed this windswell as well. Just kinda sad to go back on the camera rewind feature on Surfline and notice I missed a great dawn patrol, and now hope the swell won't die out before the end of the day I also notice that it seems the user-report on whether it's bigger or smaller than forecast doesn't seem to work anymore. At least when I try to select one or the other, the numbers on the tally don't increment.
that'll learn ya! always just go to the beach if you have chance. before work, after work, whenever. waves or not, why wouldn't you?
Haha, thanks guys ... Overall I get plenty of surfing in, but I just try to plan my day accordingly ... I typically don't have the time for both a morning and afternoon session, so I have to pick one or the other if I'm going out. As we all know windswells can be pretty finicky, so if you miss it in the morning, it can be gone by the afternoon, and it kinda sucks to be you ... thus I try to use every tool at my disposal to help prevent that Again, I'm just curious, since the swell was already filling in last night, how come the forecast, which seems to update every six hours, wasn't reset based on the current conditions. I'm not trying to stomp on SwellInfo ... overall I would give them an "A" in predicting the surf on any given day ... they're at lot better than any other site for the EC on the net.
Forecast looks good for the weekend! I'm probably gonna head south through the OBX and hit multiple spots on my way back to VA beach
Yeah !! You guys who rely on surf predictin' sites like they're The Gospel are going to be left scratching your head and testicles more often than not. Maybe that's what happened today? There was friggin 6 people out and it was a solid 3-4 foot and clean. Lefts peeling down the beach. Shoot, there was nobody on the beach, either. Maybe beachgoers look at surf predictin' sites, too? I don't know. I don't know what was going on down Virginia-way, but there was a low moving up the Atlantic coast.........the winds were blowing onshore(NE) all day yesterday at 10-15.........that usually means bubs, honeys. Just post a barometer reader on your porch, and then whenever the pressure drops go to the beach for the next day or two...........
I've got it a lot easier than most, with a couple breaks just minutes away, but this paid off two nights ago when I strolled by the home break before dark after coming back from a great day in Maine to find some great rides to be had at home. The report had zilch in it but I always take the drive by even when I'm damn near certain we were cursed with flatness. I get what you're saying about not having day and night to hit up breaks to see if they're working and that you have to plan. For the breaks an hour or two away, I do what you do. Sucks, but we gotta roll the dice sometimes. There have been very, very few times I've ever gone to a break and had nothing at all to ride. I'm thankful for anything.
Ha you are still new to surfing after all then. There will be many such times. In Mass, the dreaded skunk is just part of the game.
Got in a fun, waist-high session yesterday afternoon at low tide, around 5-630 PM at Dam Neck. Nice surprise. Wouldn't normally report such a thing, except it's been 0-1 around here for so long. Finally got a good workout as well. But quite a few surf fishers. Most were set up around the better breaking areas - even where folks were in the water - but that's another thread...
I was at the VB ocean front yesterday working on a keg box. fixed the problem but had to wait for the temp to drop before leaving. I was tormented for an hour by sweet (little) waves out front. got a check, grabbed my board out of the truck and got to the water line as the high tide killed it. God Swill. Last night, Croatan was the spot to be. because I wasn't there! You're welcome.
The buoys are offshore too and the swell height on here is near shore so there will be some dif as well. I know one of our buoys down here is like 1/4 mile or more offshore.
