My buddy's grom sent me a trailer on HBO and it looked good. Half of the boyz are millionaires, AI is gone. Wish I saw it, been busy.
I am momentum generation lol...I suspect a few of us on here are (not you Barry...way before your time). I haven’t watched it (saw trailer). Anyone 38-48 would appreciate that time in surfing the most IMO...
it was good - definitely gave a bunch of insight into and about guys that I marginally knew who they were. Also, kelly seems to be a giant coque - they painted him (correctly imho) as someone who put winning before everything else, including his friendships. It was interesting watching some of those guys just flat out say they didn't have it in them to be the royal jerkoff it would take to win world titles.
Sounds like some stuff a bunch of bitter hateful losers would say about a winner and professional. Competition is just that, competition, it’s not about making friends and being a nice guy. Save that stuff for outside the water.
it was suite. same dudes from Drive Thru. you'll become a bigger fan of benji for sure. had some great surfin scenes and pretty well documented, wouldn't say it was redford's best work. i like just about all those guys tho, so i'm a bit sided. think it's 2 hours, but i was zoned in aka high off my rocker. check it out for sure on a rainy day - like today where we're getting buckets but knowing you're going surfing the next morning - oh yea
Watching the trailer and bonus clip I get the feeling they are all still friends. Maybe some have some resentment but I think it’s because they are friends that some took it personal when Kelly would do what it took to win, and was simply better than them. A lot of the same stuff was said in “Kissed By God”, the tribute to AI. I think you can be arch rivals / nemesis in the water but go have a beer and hug it out afterwards. That’s what grown men do.
Or they just aren't that kind of competitor. These guys all have a tremendous amount of talent. Doubtful that they are bitter or hateful towards Kelly... just wasn't their style. I think Rob Machado is the epitome of this and its why I respect him as a surfer, and as a good human. Dude just found another way to be successful doing what he loves and building relationships not destroying them for fame or money.
I was just responding to the way MattinVB described things. You can see from watching lots of the videos that most of them are friends. I'm sure there is some level of hating and resentfulness but when you spend a ton of time around the same people it can get that way.
Wasn't like that. Slater himself said he was selfish and put career above friendship... They did work it out and are all friends. Good flick
