I just moved to the Monmouth Beach area. I've been trying to scout out some good breaks, but the lack of swell has made it difficult to find where these surf beaches are located. Any good breaks in Sandy Hook??? Does anyone have any insight?? much appreciated.
sandy hook, deal, long branch are all worth checking on the right swell. i think the hook needs a pretty big swell for it to be any good. depending on the sand anywhere in long branch or deal are worth the check. just drive up to the beach and surf whatever looks good.
I grew up surfing Sandy Hook and it use to have a lot more Breaks! The army core of engineers ruined them with the sand pumping. It still breaks with a big south swell or a straight east swell. The further north the more east - northeast swell is needed. Check out g beach with a big east swell.
Surf Spots!!! As you leave the monmouth beach area going southbound, all of the good breaks are just past the ocean place hotel / Peir Village in Long Branch. From there south you can pretty much just pick your spot. Good luck on your search!
watch for bad attitudes I checked the waves north of the first highrise coming down 36 and got "hassled" by a "local". He not so subtly informed me that this is a locals only spot and that I shouldn't come back. Well I'm not going back not because of that tool, I'm not going back because it sucked there, shorebreak and backwashy. Try the glen conover? pavilion in deal. I'm not sure if the name is right it's a huge parking lot can't miss. Nicer people surf there. I surf the pier in seaside, which is usually the biggest wave in jersey but that's a haul for you. The hook can get good but needs a bigger swell, I've seen some jerks there too, guys chewing each other out over chest high, cold, polluted, smelly, hepatitus ridden clam, brown, dirty jersey. I've never seen the cliche bad attitudes where i surf, it gets crowded but it's pretty much just a bunch of people catching waves and having fun.
Hahaha! Thas funny! I think the beach you were getting dubbed at is called Slants, in MB. The waves blows ass and the locals think it is the greatest wave since bottled water. Same here, I wouldn't go back there do to the fact that I have to pass 20 better spots that are on my way to get there. Deal, good waves. But when it gets big...whatch out! That place is known for some out of towners who charge and own it. It may only break big (8'+) once, or twice a year-but when it does, the wood works empty into the surf. Whatch out for the "bottom" in the Deal area ! Lets just say you can get speared, cut, stuck, rocked, trashed, needled and catch a new form of hepititas along that strecth of beach. But it's worth it I guess?
No slants Yeah deal is pretty good put what is the "deal" with all the stuff in the water, every break has like broken down peirs, old pilings, rebar etc. And elberon has a bulkhead, very bizarre, do those T jetties get any good there?
