Hello Monmouth County Surfers!,<br /> How are your sand bars holding up? Down here in Ocean County, ours are all beat up leaving us all to surf the piers (and kill each other!).

I surf both counties but have noticed the sandbars in the Lavallette area are seriously messed up. The bar has actually been deposited on the beach, completely burying the groins (you can't even see them) which I haven't seen in 41 years. Anybody have any clue what has caused this? I'm guessing the lack of storms this winter, which failed to gouge out the beach and deposit the sand offshore where it belongs. I did, however, hear some speculation among guards last year that the town has actually been bulldozering a lot of sand up towards the dunes and the theory was that this created a lack of sand further down the beach for the ocean to deposit offshore. ie, the sand that should be forming the sandbar has been pushed up to create dunes.

Just guessing. The beach profile is really weird and yeah, it has forced me to the piers, which I don't like for crowd reasons.
