So I work HVAC/R. Commercial. But sometimes do residential as favors for the bosses friends. So today I was doing a residential job. Guys completely remodeling his house. Place is gutted. Anyway I keeled down on a nail. I immediately felt a weird feeling/pain INSIDE my knee. Then realized what happened. Barley bled at all. Knee was alike sore but continued working. Now that I'm home, my knee is killing me. Like inside my knee. Feels like I slammed it on something. Not really swollen, but a little bit.

The nail went in just under my knee cap. So you guys think it's just bruised or maybe I popped a hole in like a tendon or something? I did feel a pop like sensation but not sure if that was skin or not.

I can walk, but am limping pretty good. It hurts but isn't anything like "oh my god get me to a hospital now". Kinda bummed, was hands surf tomorrow since I hadn't in about a week. Looks tiny but thought I'd LB. Not going now. Thoughts and advice?

I had to get stitches twice in the past few years due to surfing accidents. Got the shot for the first set of stiches. I'm good there.

Tetanus shot if you haven't had a recent one in the past 24 months, which I bet you haven't. Get it first thing in the morning. No joke here, tetanus will kill you and if you wait too long, you're toast.

After you get the shot, go see your doctor.

    Mom says.

What The Flo said. And stay tuned here on Yee Olde Fourume for medicale advise, there's no need to go to a trained physician, none at all.

I think I'm ok on tetanus shot thing. I had one 3 years ago. If I go to the doctor I will probably get another just to be safe if doc thinks that's a good idea.

The pain is getting rough. Walking is really hard, slow, and painful. I don't feel comfortable putting weight on it. When I bend the knee is when it really hurts. If I wake up tomorrow and it's worse, I'm going to a doc. If it's better or the same I may just see what happens.

My worry is this. It's not like a cut that hurts. Even though it was a little puncture wounds. It feels like I slammed it really good or maybe twisted it...even though I didn't. I cut myself on a daily basis at my job haha. I'm accident prone. Never had something like this though. I don't know if it's possible or likely that a nail going into my knee could cause any internal damage, but that's what it's feeling like.

Knee problems can linger, you might want to get it checked out. I might need a replacement right now

How deep is it? It probably wouldn't take much to puncture a ligament or tendon. Not much meat right there.

Hard to tell. I kneeld on it, jumped up and smacked it with a hammer. Maybe an eighth to a quarter inch. Possibly. But it didn't really bleed at all. So I'm not sure if it went in that deep. Really got no idea.

I never heard of a punctured tendon or ligament, but it seems possible and that's all I can think of considering how it happened. Deffinitly not much meat there.

Would that be something serious or something that'll heal on its own?

Sounds as if you are "set" with your tetanus shot. As a point of information, tetanus is a bacteria, clostridium tetani, which can be a nasty one if not attended to, but it sounds as if you are well within your immunization schedule date range. At 5 years, I would definitely get a shot; 3 years you should be good. You need to keep puncture wound CLEAN, use isopropyl alcohol daily for a few days. Tetanus is NOT the only bacteria we need to be concerned about; staph and strep also. Make sure you have no spreading redness about puncture, no pus, etc. If you develop a fever..see MD right away.
Based on your description, it is a shallow puncture so it should heal on its own. Just watch it ACTIVELY, (i.e. check it in morning and evening when you clean with isopropyl) to make sure no problems are developing.
Stay out of surf for a few days, btw, allowing it to heal.
Now here, I would normally invoke a "go kill yourself" clause, but I guess we cannot do that anymore. So "go heal thyself" will have to do.......

Oh, and one vital piece of advice--before you clean the wound with alcohol, CLEAN YOUR HANDS well. Us guys "are such pigs", I am told........

Puncture wounds can be dangerous and hurt like hell if they become infected. Go to an emergency medical and get a tetanus booster, even after 3 years they will insist, and a round of antibiotics. You will be good to go after that and the good thing is with the pain in your knee your your threshold is already up so you will barely feel the shots. Ever wonder why you see emergency personnel giving shots and the receiver doesn't even flinch, that's why, once your pain threshold is up you can't feel anything from a needle.
