What do you guys think the most consistent place to surf everyday (365 days a year) with quality conditions is ? Board-shorts optional. Some cool links or vidjyas would be bomber too.
i mean im at that point too in oregon but its summer so its only glassy and above head high a handful of those days, i was wonder for consistent quality all year round.
Oahu was my first thought as well. I often thought that if you had enough time to drive around you could surf everyday due to the 360 degree exposure. Heck diamond head probably gets surf 250 days a year alone. If not Oahu then I'd say some other island that has full exposure would be a good start.
Tahiti or one of the islands... There is always a wave somewhere and the islands are small enough to go to the north or south side. I was in Moorea for 3 weeks in October and it was transitioning from south to north swells... There was always a firing wave somewhere with a handful of guys (if any) on it.
I haven't been enough places to really make a qualified judgment, but here goes: Santa Cruz over San Diego (only because I've been to both). Archy said "Chile", and from what I've seen and read, I agree. It's a huge coastline with an unlimited variance of surf breaks. Pretty sure if the waves or wind isn't working in one area, a short drive will undoubtedly take you to a spot that will be breaking. And you probably have to wait for the swell to die down, as opposed to waiting for the waves to pick up. From what I understand, there's almost always some type of surfable wave on Oahu...so Stank has got something. For all we know, there's probably some island in Surflandia or some other corner of the world that breaks 24/7 without regard to wind, tide or swell and some rogue (rouge?) Aussie hasn't yet shared the secret with 10,000,000 of his "mates".
Not sure which one, but I would say it would be an island exposed to swell from all directions, and with wind-protection from all directions. Small enough (like Oahu) that you can get to any side easily to chase down the right wind/swell windows. As consistent as a place like southern California or mainland mexico are with year around swell, when the west winds kick onshore, your options for clean waves are gone, or at least limited to such sheltered spots that the swell often isn't sufficient.
i got all the north shore surfline cams on my phone, its been flat there for months...as basically everywhere in the summer. indo is the most consistant warm water spot, plenty activity in the south indian ocean...also id say south Africa is pretty consistant as well, just have to share the water with 16ft whites
Peru. Punta Hermosa region. If you check the swell consistency charts, it's evident that it's up there with the best. Been to Chile, drove a large part of the country and checked a lot of coast. I saw a lot of places simply not breaking (mostly checked between Anto***asta and Santiago/Vina). But this could be due to my cluelessness at the time, along with the secretive nature of the roadless underdeveloped landscape. Certainly there could be some perfect points and reefs hidden in that dry ugly monotony, hundreds of miles from anything resembling Western civilization. Parts of Indo have to be up there, simply due to the insane swell exposure and flexibility with seasonal wind direction. I imagine many S. Pacific islands have a similar setup; NYNJ what the f*ck were you doing in Moorea? That is an awesome and obscure corner of the earth to set foot on! The only time I've been that far out in the Ocean is on a plane. West Oz definitely gets slammed with swell, though I have no idea about offshore reliability. I think an important thing to consider is the culture and landscape. In 2017, I've got a good chance of living in the vicinity of Lima, Santiago, or Buenos Aires for a half the year. Lima's got the goods but the quality of life kind of sucks.
Dude, you're out of your mind. Check some of the other cams on Oahu...Diamond Head is chest-head 4ft at 14 seconds today and doesn't go below waist high through the 25th. Ala Moana is 3-4 ft, Ma'ili is 4-5 ft, and Makapu'u is 4-5 on tradewind swell. That's 3 of the 4 exposures on the island breaking chest to head+ today alone. Like I said, Oahu is surfable pretty much year round, provided you have time to drive to where the waves are, and deal with the ridiculous traffic on the H1.
This is an easy question... You should know that Belmar is the undisputed most consistent and biggest break in the continental US
For a while I was thinking that maybe the east coast was "consistent enough" that I could plant my flag here. But man alive, this summer has been crippling. Everything about going to the beach is such a ****ing hassle this time of year, and the surf is just crap. I just don't think this can be it. I'm sure Belmar is great, though.
