So far, and I'm no expert, of the places that I've been it's been the Pacific coast of CR. Can always surf something, with the caveat being when it's insanely big & closing out or 50 knot offshores. Butt, of the entire world....? That's a journey worth taking just to find out.
Meh....I think I would be extremely bored on a trip like that. I agree with your assessment of the West Coast of the Americas. I voted fro San Diego area simple because I thought we were discussing the USA. But every time I have been there, there is a swell of some kind. The west coast of ANY land mass is the place to be. East coast of any land mass sucks more than the west, no matter where.
You possess the means to do this and few reasons not to. I say go for it Yank! Make the third act of your memoir one worth reading.
Barbados is pretty consistent but expensive. Close to US east coast, very civilized, 360 degree exposure.
He actually says " it's flat everywhere in summer". Hilarious. +1 Toonces Cepriena is totally out of his mind. He doesn't get enough waves on the east coast in summer so he doesn't want anyone else to get waves so makes up this dream world where it's flat all summer long EVERYWHERE. That way in his mind, "he's not missing anything" I call it eastcoastitis. It's a crippling mental conditions caused by bouts of ec summer flatness. Nicaragua/central america absolutely FIRES all summer long. In Nic, it's offshore all day long due to that lake. Newport beach/orange county in California basically has solid at least waist to chest 85 days out of 90 from memorial day to labor day. Summer is actually the most consistent time of year in that area. Totally different than up north. Also, on the east coast even in winter it would basically be considered inconsistent if it were located anywhere else. Seriously, how many solid sessions with good waves/winds do you get in jan on average? 5-7 times a month maybe? With 2 week flat spells. Compared to anywhere else in the world, that's a joke. And it's freezing on top of it. We have it rough here on the ec. You could get more surf in one summer in California than you could get in 10 years of east coast summer's. Here's a nicargua surf report with pictures that's archived for years. http://www.surfnsr.com/archives/month?date=01+2015 " Weren't you the guy raving about your incredible knee high waves in ultra crowded conditions? FUN! Most states are not as crowded as RI in case you haven't traveled around. It's a small state with a lot of population and few beach breaks that have very few peaks. Green hill must have had 35 guys on one peak last hurricane swell. Only one peak at that spot. That's part of the problem. No room. Its also very sheltered. Check the montauk cams on surfline. A LOT of swell that is hitting long island doesn't get past block island sound into Rhody. Many fun waist high swells lose their steam by the time they hit newport. So if you wanted an intermediate location to plant your flag without leaving the ec, there are better states.
You guys actually had a pretty 'interesting' impact on me, Slash, in that other tread. Suffice to say that I don't want to jinx myself, so I'll save the news for when the deal is absolutely done. You track things pretty impressively. Ex-NSA spook, perhaps...? And gracias mang
Been there a couple times butt always in winter. Man, that place seriously bakes like a rock in the oven, sun is no joke there. Can't even imagine sitting on that rock in the summertime. Agreed, though: very civilized & pleasant inhabitants, expensive as hell, pretty close to USA butt closer to South America & thus still a nearly 4-hour flight from MIA & it's-a-small-island-some-place-there's-waves asspect. Drive to all breaks fairly rapidly.
Sorry guys but Jenness beach and The wall in North Hampton have my vote! Especially lately! It has been the MOST CONSISTENT of all the breaks in the world..... consistently bad that is........ hey consistent is consistent!!
So you are saying maybe Rhode Island is not the best surf spot? Thanks for the info Captain Obvious. Been surfing the Ocean State for 35+ years and can confirm that. Been to Oahu, as many east coasters have and would have never came back if I was there as a teenager. From what I understand the longest flat spell ever was two weeks. Barry there were a couple of guys in their mid 50s on the boat and had the times of their lives. I think you would be surprised. There are a dozen or so on this board I would like to see surfing Indo barrels.
