Indo and Hawaii are both overrated. Best surf is in Albany, NY

Thanks for the tip brudda, spent a decade in the islands and a recent trip to Indo...been struggling on next trip decision. I guess it's a coin toss between belmar and Albany. Can I get pros and cons of each and all the places I should see and where to park

dude looks prettttty nice. I was just checking the surf reports for North Carolina and they were all like "surfs up! its firing" for a 3 foot at 8 second interval. Its been at least that or better (much better) since i got out here to Oregon and if it drops below 5 feet at 10 seconds its considered flat.

Sure it might not be great all the time out here, but at least I don't have to wait weeks on end for that crap anymore. HI seems to be to the PNW what the PNW is to the Eastcoast. You got it made brotherman.

Yeah it's nice to have consistent surf, but it's kind of a mixed bag when you're waiting for 3 months for the swell to drop.

    Hawaii's aight

Diamond Head is what's up. Used to go there on vacation annually for a few years, then my girlfriend and I split up. Went there about 2.5 years ago and had to take my brother, I had already booked the place and tickets in advance and we broke up 2 months before. I'd like to go again. Recently I've been floating back and forth the idea of possibly being a condo there. I figured if I could sell my house where I live in Manasquan, I could take the profit and buy something really cheap (there's some cheap little one story duplex homes that are 1000 square feet and 2 bedroom/1 bath in Toms River for $110-$140 grand) in cash and then maybe buy a condo there for $250-$300 grand.

With my job, I only work for 7 or 8 months a year, so I have most of spring and all summer off, except for one week in July. So I could go there from about mid April to mid September. I bought this big house because we had planned to get married and maybe have a family. I'm 45 now and don't see that in my future anymore, so I don't need this big 2100 square foot house. But I'll probably keep it anyway. My buddy is currently tossing up the condo buying idea in Diamond Head or Waikiki himself. He has enough for a down payment and he also has off in the spring and Summer's like me. We work together. So I'm just waiting it out to see if he bites on buying one first! It's a pretty intriguing idea though. May as well have some fun. I only have 9 years left on my mortgage. Regardless of what happens now, Oahu is definitely an option later in life. Like when I turn 70 haha.

Only off in the weakest season for surf, outside of hurricane swells in August. But the catch is that I literally work 85 maybe 90 hours a week between September and April. And with quite a bit of travel. So any down time I get during the time of the year, I literally have to spend catching up on missed sleep. No time to surf, except for holidays and a few days here and there in January or February. And even if I got something in Diamond Head, I could always commute to the North Shore or places all over Oahu. I'm still in the tossing around process here, no concrete plans yet. I have a bike, I mean a motorcycle, not implying bicycle here. I was thinking about having that shipped to get around out there, if this goes through. But you can't transport a board around the island with that. But I could always buy an old POS pickup for that.

I'm really biased towards Oahu, it's always been a favorite destination of mine. And I'm alright with not surfing necessarily the best quality. Just want something more consistent. I'd even be up for surfing the mediocre slop I got in Monmouth County yesterday, as I at least wouldn't have to be sharing it with literally 45 other people, most of whom are casual or novice surfers. More breaks there and it's a little more spread out.
    They're bennies here!
