Hey I've been saving up to move out Cali way, where would be a great place to start? and approximately how much is a good low end apartment there? I have friends in San Diego, so i really wanna move there, but i'm down for any nice surf towns that are decent living. any Info or help would be awesome.

    like old folks' underwear....depends

any beach town is going to be $$$, and moving inland just a bit makes a big difference, depending (800-2000 a month, depending on size, location and whether you are sharing). orange county is big dollars, as is san diego county, although ocean beach is less pricey b/c there is a lower demand by preppy college kids or rich retirees (pacific beach or la jolla, on the other hand, high demand and high rents). go inland to lemon grove (near the colleges) or even towards escondido (further east) or leucadia and oceanside et al (north) and things become a LITTLE easier. anything near los angeles proper (malibu, manhattan beach, long beach etc,) even though it can be pretty scuzzy, is still pricey unless you move inland to where it is REALLY scuzzy.

also, consider where you can work...if you are a service industry (restaurant, retail , sex worker, etc) you can go just about anywhere, but if you have a specific skill (engineer, teacher, porn star, etc) you have to live where the work is.

lastly, consider traffic. i live 45 miles from the beach (inland empire) and without traffic after 9 am midweek it is a 50 minute drive there....on a friday afternoon after 2 pm it can be well over two-three hours getting home.

oh, and beware...some locals (on this board) don't like you calling our lovely haven "cali"....whatever....welcome aboard... or bienvenidos, amigo

    hope that helps

why dont you ask your friends that live there, they can most likely tell you more than any of us can
