Hello, Ill be moving to maine in a month for a new job, given the nature of my work I can live in the southern region, so I'm basically not sure where I should plant my self for the next few years.. I want to shred real hard all the time and do surf the maine way. Any local advice ?:cool::confused::confused:

Palmer, I advise you to be weary of nomadic Canadian "shredders" with vans, and also keep an eye out for excessive body hair and blubber floating about in the lineups..

Where are you moving from? I hope your good with cold water. Expect to be in a 5 mil or better 10 moths out of the year. Reside in NH (no taxes), good surf breaks there into no. Mass. Grow beard wear plaid and no such thing as the letter R in you words.Enjoy!

Yeah, you'll shred real hard mainly because you'll be frozen real hard!

Maine is more diverse than most understand, where in Maine will you be located? Central, Downeast, southern? Even what part of southern Maine makes a huge difference.

    However....

Born and raised Maine (Portland area) and miss it almost every day down here in Florida... visited last August and was able to catch a swell. Be respectful and take the time to have a conversation with a few people, your wave count will be affected in a positive way... the cold is not that bad, it's 2015 and the available gear makes it more than tolerable, if not comfortable most of the year. I was up again for xmas and got waves xmas morning. Just do yourself a favor and invest in some good cold water gear (Patagucci is not necessary) and take some time acclimating to the weather, don't rush to put sweaters and jackets on when the weather starts getting colder.

Plenty of spots to surf and even more that are known but unknown to the masses. Take your time and don't be too aggressive, Mainers are real chill people for the most part and hyper-aggression is not accepted well. Enjoy the way life should be.

Maine is the balllsss! YORK beach has longsands which is for surfers, tourist and beach goers go to short sand! Ogunquit has a river mouth that I heard is sick when firing. Kennebunkport has waves too! These breaks are pretty close to each other including old orchard. Cool vibe usually! If you like fresh off the boat fish, Forgeaboutit! Moose,Eagles,bears,ect...

I have the PDF for the Maine surfers guide. Its been taken down off the inter web. I am the sacred beholder of the file. PM me for it.

NH is awesome. Maine from Higgins/Scarborough to OOB to Fortunes to Goochs/Kennebunk... that section of Maine has something for every swell. Kennebunk holds clean (south facing) when the east facing beaches blow out.

Shoot yourself in the leg. Blame it on errant moose hunters. Collect disability. Retire to Florida. Be reasonable.

Have you watched downeast ****ering? I suggest that as a crash course in 'all things maine.' From my own viewing of this show I can tell you:

    Everyone is always stoned
    Not much happens
The entire state's population is employed, in some facet, in the snow removal business
The women are kind of manish
barter is the key to friendship and survival

    best of luck!
