Barry, Pandora is simply a software program for you to make your own playlist of music. If you like Classical, then program it to play Classical music and that's what it will play. If it plays a song you don't like, give it a "thumbs down" and it will never play that song againe. If you like a song, give it a "thumbs up" and it will put that song on your playlist. Over time it learns what you like and will play more and more stuff you like as you weed out the "noise" and "vomit".
I didn't really get into Metalica until the 90's at some point. I had only really heard the radio hits by them at that point. I had heard One and Harvester Of Sorrow, as well as Master Of Puppets and Fade To Black, and I thought "Yeah, this isn't as bad as Enter Sandman or Hero Of The Day or Until It Sleeps, I should check these out". That was in the late 90's or so and one of my good friends had their first four albums on cassette and I borrowed them. I bought them soon after. They sound a little like Suicidal Tendencies late 80's stuff, that I had already been listening to for 10 years. I remember the same friend playing Kill Em All in the late 80's and digging it. Hearing Seek And Destroy and hearing their 90's-present stuff, it doesn't even sound like the same band. I had a girlfriend for years in the 90's, who had the Black Album and thought it was the greatest thing in the world. I hated it and made fun of her for it. It wasn't until after we broke up that I started getting into their older albums. I like everything from them, with the exception of "Somewhere Between Heaven And Hell" or whatever their album from like 91 or 92 is called. The first two tracks (which ended up being their radio hits and singles from the album) are solid, but the rest just sounds like a really bad country album. I do like Prison Bound and their self titled albums, which have some Johnny Cash and Country-ish influence, but the one album is really awful and hard to listen to IMO. I have a friend who insists that's their best album and his favorite, but I can't stand it and wouldn't even wanna give it a listen today. It's like The Clash's "Cut The Crap" album for me. Not in sound, just in weakest moment equivalent. I like Mommy's Little Monster and the stuff from Mainliner the best, but everything other than that early 90's album is pretty good to me.
O Barry... I keep forgetting you went to school with Mozart. I have classical on my Pandora stations as well as "Princess Music" for my granddaughters... Get into the 2000's would you?
I love pantera. Being as you seem to have an ear for musical talent, ill say this. I used to listen to a good amount of death metal. Stuff that makes pantera look like the back street boys. Don't listen to it a bunch anymore but it still has a place in my heart. It's what i grew up on. Any way my point is people who don't like it always say it's noise not music. You can't understand what they're saying. Blah blah blah. Sure there are some crappy bands out there, but the good ones... man oh man. Some seriously talented drummers. Not every death metal band of course. But some are really talented musically. I'm not saying this to defend the genre. Or suggesting you give it a try. If you don't like that stuff that's all good. I'm just commenting that most people who don't listen see it as noise and not music. When in reality they're are some super talented musicians playing that type of music
Don't know how to pay videos but here's one. So damn fast without getting sloppy. Keep in mind he's going crazy on the double pedal (kick drum) too. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=65BvhDrbmLA
Like some of all genres. Too many to list. If you haven't seen Sturgill Simpson on SNL in Feb. this year look it up on Youtube. That was one of the better band preformance's I've seen lately and the dude writes great lyrics too. Usually not a fan of what is called "country" these days but I like his stuff.
Ok ok ok. One last one. I'm becoming flo here. Except she knew how to post videos. This is for you Barry. Not death metal. But a super talented drummer. But the drummer and bassist both remind me of led zepplin in there style. This song in particular is petty damn cool. Lots of weird time signature stuff going on. Drummers plaguing 7/8 while the rest play 4/4, then it all meets up on the down beat. 7/8 timing is thrown in here and there throughout the song with a few other odd time signatures. Band named tool https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Tja6_h4lT6A
Love me some Pantera. Pure, unadulterated hate.
The Ballad of a Thin Man https://vimeo.com/52383325
Something new. Lyrics and vid and the whole shebang are awesome as far as I'm concerned.
Yeah...listen to "Fight Fire with Fire" off Ride the Lighting then listen to anything off And Justice for All. It was still alive but mortally wounded. Plus on Justice...Lars' bass drums sound like mic'ed cardboard boxes with carpet padding. When raw power was traded for clear production...its over.
Good choice Seldom. With all the genres of music it's hard to narrow it down to just one band. But there is so much recorded music of the Dead that it is pretty much impossible to ever get tired of them. If I could listen to only one band for the rest of my life it would either be the Dead or Jimi Hendrix.
For me it is JS Bach. If you have a glass of wine, put on his Double Violin Concerto, crank up the volume, you will be blown away by what you have missed during your lifetime. It is clearly the "rock" of the late 1600s. Try it.
+2 on the dead. Iggys right. There's just so much out there, and it's all good, they definitely fit the bill when it comes to one band forever. Iv played that one band for the rest of my life game. Can't do it. Just can't pick one. I can however pick 3. Portugal the man, they got dance jams and acoustic jams and just all round good music. Deftones, i wouldn't call them heavy, but they can cover that heavy that my ear looks for at times. Plus there just awesome. Then tool. Tools just to damn good. Now that i narrowed it to 3, i realize if you asked me tomorrow it would change haha. But those are 3 of my absolute favourites
