I used to play sax in middle and high school. Wasn't great but not bad. It wasn't my thing so i stopped. When i picked up the bass,it was years after stopping so i had forgotten how to read music. Which is ok by me because i would rather create my own music.

Speaking of creating, what about a gangster ass reggae band made up of swellies. Seems to be plenty of guitar players. I play bass and it was my idea so....I'm playing bass. DP can be on horns. We need a drummer. And a vocalist.

Make it happen, i got access to a studio for free.

I played the Baritone (euphonium - not the baritone sax) in middle school... always wanted to play drums so ended up getting a kit and played some music with friends from school. Pops gave away my drum set in return for some emergency tree work he had done.. didn't have anything to beat on for a while until I found the Djembe. Used to have drive way jam sessions for the drunk kids walking up and down 42nd street at ODU. Plenty of black dudes would come by and tell me to give them a beat and they would try to freestyle. **** was hilarious.

Stopped playing for a while until about a year ago my ex girlfriend bough me a new djembe. Been playing the piss out of it for a while now. My roommate is an amazing pianist (gigs for a living) so he brings other musical people over and we jam from time to time. As for the swellie reggea band.. dibs on Djembe.

Members of my family have always had musical talent and grew up admiring those that had the talent to play any instrument. There was a time when playing guitar was important to me and it felt natural. One day, my world fell apart when my house was broken into and my Martin Drednaught was stolen. It devastated me and for some reason made me loose my interest in playing. When I married my wife had bought me a guitar in hopes I would start again, but my passion for playing was gone. Later on when my daughter said she wanted to learn I could have been more pleased with the thought of her carying on with the gift music. Got her a guitar but soon she gave it up.
A couple years ago my daughter bought me a ukelele. It's fun and I'm learning but not putting in the time needed to become proficient. I still enjoy it though. These days I prefer to listen.

    I laugh everytime I hear TwentyOnePilots;
"Someone stole my car radio, now all I do is sit in silence"
    Just replace it with guitar.

you can look at it this way: guitars are a pita. You have to change strings like every month of play (or it'll sound dull). Frets wear down every year of play, so you gotta take it to a luthier to get them leveled (or you'll get buzzes). The neck can warp (more buzzes), so you gotta have the truss rod adjusted. Humidity control can be an issue with acoustic guitars...especially prized Martins in humid climates. Every few years, frets need to be completely replaced...it gets expensive!

OR you can learn how to do all the maintenance, yourself...which is more tedious and time consuming than actually leaning to play the instrument.

Hey man. I play my bass with old worn out flats. I love that dull thud. Well it's not toooo dull. But dull in comparison to fresh round wounds. Once it does hey really dull i replace and play the hell out of them until they loose some twang.

I really miss jamming. Going to go on a bit of a rant here. Hang on. My close friends are all pretty damn good musicians. Two in particular are amazing. Ones a guitarist, the other a drummer (but also sings and dabbles in guitar and owns a studio recording bands for a living). When i first stayed playing bass, I'm talking like a week in, we'd all jam. It helped me learn quickly. Eff playing along to your favorite songs and looking up tabs. Anyway, once i got proficient we were making some good tunes. Stuff that blew me away. The guitarist got into heroin before i picked up bass, fell off (were all friends since like middle school). When i got into bass he had just cleaned up. So us jamming was great firstly because of the music and fun, but secondly a friend who had a problem was back and fun to be around again. Well that didn't last long. He got back into that crap. Started nodding out mid jams and eventually sold his guitars. We had to dead him. Tough love type of thing. So me and the drummer started making and recording music just us. He was my best friend (waaay before i ever picked up a bass). We were really tight. What do you expect from a bassist and a drummer right? So we would record, sometimes do collaborations with people. Bring in a singer or a guitar player in if we felt whatever we had written fits there style. Other wise it was just us. He'd pay me to do some session bass work if he was recording a solo acoustic type guy/gal. It was so much fun. Go hang with my best friend, record, then have all our friends come by and just party. Well he got heavy into pills eventually. My small tight knit group of friends had to dead him too. Again, tough love. We're not going to enable. Hadn't played with him or recorded in about 2 years now. The saddest part is that i lost my best friend. Although he's supposedly back on track now. But my whole group of friends have been trying to hang with him for the past 6 months and he always bails or is just strange. We're skeptical...maybe he's still on pills, maybe not. Either way things just aren't the same. Less importantly, i have no one to jam with. Iv gotten with some other musicians to play and record. It's alright. But we had chemistry, as gay as that sounds. We knew exactly what the other was thinking musically. I hadn't had that with any other of the guys iv tried playing with. So yeah. Sorry for the long story but man. I miss jamming

Started playing piano at 25, played guitar and drums from childhood, but never piano. 5 years later I have a baby grand in the living room...the muscle memory doesn't come as quickly but if you're focused you can do it for sure!

Did the same thing a couple years ago with the clarinet. It's almost amazing how relatively easy it comes back to you decades later: the fingering, reading music, etc. I played for 6 years, 4th through 9th grade, private lessons, school bands and orchestras before getting more involved in sports.
Also enjoy the harmonica and took up the banjo (clawhammer style) several years back.

Been playing in rock\punk\metal bands you've never heard of for over 25 years. Mostly guitar, some bass. Played some fun shows on both coasts and a few gigs in Canada. Never made any money but never expected to, just did it/do it for fun. Just had our drummer quit two weeks ago, he got sick of the bass player, (not the first either). Not sure if I'll continue with this project. Going to finish up what we got, put it out, then figure out what to do next.

I play Les Pauls and Marshalls but I swap out the Marshall tubes for Mesa Boogie tubes...match made in heaven...

I've got a gorgeous 2001 trans amber Gibson Les Paul...still in mint condition because my hands are too big to play necks shorter than 25.5" scale length of strat-style guitars.

Kinda wish I would have learned keyboards instead...less hassles.
