I disagree sir. I think Depp nailed it. He was a friend of HST and lived with him. I've seen a couple documentaries on HST and IMHO Depp nailed it to a T. HST in the book is an awkward binging fool. FnL was better than Rum Diaries, but you could see the beginnings of Gonzo journalism. I think Gilliam's adaptation of FnL was great as well. I rather enjoyed the fact that the people thought it was just going to be a silly comedy came out disturbed. Its supposed to be disturbing, at least to the uninitiated. "The Curse of Lono" is good as well, like FnL in Hawaii. Not as good, but still good. If you want to learn how to piss off an entire island, its the go to manual for how to do it.
I love that line about all the deadbeats in casinos at 4 a.m., "dry humping the American dream"... that's when real 'Mericans are observing or waking up to paddle out...
Dude, the dude couldn't handle his drugs then. He was an absolute mess. I mean who loses a big bag of ca-caine like that? I don't know, I liked The Rum Diaries.... But of course Hollywood rapes books all the time. So, I will hold-off judgement of FnL until I read it... I can never find his Hells Angles book when I go a lookin'. I tend to avoid Amazon except for Canadian Young Adult literature that you can not find in bookstores these days. Sorry Lokien T, I did not like that movie. It actually annoyed me. Didn't finish it......I respect your opinion though. So you have that going for you, which is nice. See Caddyshack was a good flick. You do drugs, Danny? Everyday Good, so what's the problem?
I never thought id see the day u diss fear and loathing!!!! I see u didn't watch the whole thing so u get a semi pass.its just one of those movies u have to watch 3 or 4 times before u finally get it.and u have to be high to watch it,not on dope, but something fancy.u probably nodded out during the best parts. I wish I had some grade a psychedelics like that where im seeing the shyt depp was seeing.and the lawyer,I just know him as the cop from traffic, did a great job aswell. the best part was when he was in the nem room and spilled his lsd all over his arm and him and some stranger are licking his sleeve while the blue collar business guy strolls in lol.
To address this whole thread.... I watch porn and I have muslim chicks on my side. But are we really at war with Islam. Thats a whole religion. I really like to believe deep down that most people just want to go to work every day, bang their wives, raise their kids, and have a hobby. Its the crazies that mess it up. Religion is something most people do because their parents did it and they feel guilty, and they don't have the best education and logical rebuttal to the universe. A few brown hotties on the side of my screen is awesome. Oddly enough, when I watch cartel beheading videos or police brutality videos or suicide videos occasionally on the gore sites, they have porn ads off to the side. Who says, "Cool, just watched Juan Carlos get his head axed with a chainsaw, now I'm gonna beat one out before the wife gets home?!?" And thanks to cultural meccas such as Amsterdam, Brussels, Hamburg, and Frankfurt, I have been able to sample things not available in my local market. Some of the hottest gals I've ever seen were burkinis (wahine + burka + bikini?). Those ads remind me of the good times when the dollar was strong and I lived near an international airport. I thought he nailed it in Fear and Loathing. I read the book and saw the movie shortly thereafter. Rarely does Hollywood do a movie justice, but I thought the was pretty good and Depp was amazing. Rum Diaries was a close second, but for me it didn't do it quite as much as Fear and Loathing. Like you said, it was the beginning of the gonzo transformation. In the opening scene of Fear and Loathing, he pulls up to the hotel lobby in a Ford Maverick. My crew in high school was a bunch of skate/core dudes and this one older guy that bought the booze and cruised around in a 1973 white Ford Maverick. We did a lot of drugs, but one relevant story stands out..... We were loaded on Jerry Garcia tabs and good small town cheeb, and we had one of those 6 hour adventures on foot that led us through parks and woods and land fills and the older dude's house where I went total HST and "borrowed" the dude's mom's super giant 80s glasses and wigged out on a velvet painting of a sea captain in the backdrop of stormy seas from like 3" away, feeling up on the waves. His parents were literally like 75 and had no idea what was going on. Excellent judgement: in classic FNL style we took the Mav out once it was dark, as if any of us should have been operating a vehicle. We took the backroads to Old Quarry Road, a lane-and-a-half wide dirt road that went straight for 1/2 mile with nothing but marsh on either side, no guard rails, ultimately leading to a hiking trail and a quarry. We drove the Mav probably 90mph with the lights off down the road, all kinds of bugged out. I was 16 and wasn't driving, and hadn't seen FNL yet either... But wow, top 10 most irresponsible things I had ever done.
Yeah, most religious people ain't no book-learned. Theys all dumb. Logical rebuttal to the universe? Like, you mean you are omnipotent or something? Or you are in court with the universe? I know you ain't impotent because you're a studly-type of dude. Totals playboy vag-slayer. I'm at war with Islam, and that's all that matters. Not many Muslims in your neck of the woods anyways. Just syrup, maple syrup and some really cool Highway Patrol officers. You've been to Hamburg? How aboot Hammelburg? Woah, did you see Colonel Klink or Sargent Shultz? They ran a POW camp outside of Hammelburg. Watch out dude, fellow playboy Colonel Hogan was shot for his sexual conflict. 90 mph with out lights in the woods, huh? You should rename yourself Hugh Heffner on here. Hey, you and Spicoli should get together and travel....
I missed this yesterday. Dude, I even have that side-kick dude, too, Harris. He'll be out of the Ocean Count Jail in June. Filming could start then. Camden, NJ !! You should see me and Harris on South 7th St. Lighters flickering......Dollar bills and wax paper...
yeah, didn't find any. walked from cal east on atlantic to misouri and back. mid-town. more muslims; less gypsies.
that's a pretty cool story.these are the posts I like to read.crazy childhood shenanigans(wow did I really spell that right),kids are spoiled nowadays with smartphones and social media.do kids even skip rocks nowadays,u kno throwing rocks at the water and see how many times they skip.some of u wont get it,but people know lol..
