Honestly looks like Nathan was just having a bad day or was off his meds. While it was a drop in it was not worthy of taking swings. Verbal beat down at most.

 

Probably. Sue? No. But then they would end up victims of my code: Oahu Correctional Facility, 3-5 years for felony assault. Nobody would have to worry about drop-in there!! That is wayyyy mo betta than suing.....

 

Ive never hit or been hit but like mattinvb i too have a bmfing scar on my forehead from a careless act of another. I didnt/couldnt/wouldnt do anything. But was told by others afterward that the guy was chased out of the water. I also agree there are waves of consequence. It would also depend on who im dealing with. At pipe you shouldnt be dealing w an amateur or someone who doesnt know any better. Only place ive ever been to that had a regulator was jobos. Havent seen that going on there in quite some time. I also dont go there on a weekend to surf anymore. Im not out to try an enforce but there should been some common courtesy and will and have told people "the code". High school kids in long beach made up a bunch of signs a few years ago that outlined it. Idk somehow they figured it out

 

When I was a wee lad of 7 years old back in 1970 or thereabouts, I accidentally hit an 8th grader in the back of the head with one of dem red dodge/kick balls. He proceeded to reign blows upon my face until I looked like a smashed-in pumpkin. When I got back to class, the nun asked me what happened. I told her I accidentally kicked an 8th grader with the kickball. She said , "Next time, avoid the 8th graders when kicking the ball." My dad echoed her comments when I told him later that day. I took my beating but I sure as sh!t never messed with the 8th graders again. When in the playing field with those who have earned the right to be there by being BETTER than you, you need to know the pecking order. LEARN RESPECT.

 

Makes sense...you probably have plenty of $$$. The end result would be you getting run off the island...in theory.

I have a very good friend of mind who got run off the island, literally. Had to leave or else. He was dropping in on brudda's chic, which is not a good idea for a white dude to be doing to begin with!!!

the sponger deserved the little punches. even if he connected all of those shots to the head, they wouldn't have amounted to much...just a few welts. but, if the sponger died as a result of Nathan's blows because he face-planted on reef from not paying attention to those sets on the inside, then Nathan woulda gone to the clinker for a long azz time. best to just force the guy to go to the beach and beat his face on dry land later on. too much coulda gone wrong as a result of that little altercation.

Once had a kids mother write me a check for her son dinging my board. Kid grew up to be a POS who went to prison 'cause he finally did something his mommy couldn't bail him out from. Maybe a beat down would have been a better lesson?

PS I was only a couple years older than him at the time but young and dumb enough to enforce the "code" that I had been taught the hard way in the water.

For surfing no. For sponge rider riding there are, as of yet, no rules. I hear there are plans for contests in the near future so I'm sure it will all be sorted out.
