http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-fatally-stabbed-umbrella-Virginia-Beach.html Two thoughts instantly come to mind here: 1. your gawd has a sick sense of humor, eh wayne...? 2. You know it's summer when...
Not everyone can read Shakespeare all day long! Nor the whining NYT, esp in an election year - - there's always a place in my world for good solid rag journalism, aka the NY POST & The Mail.
Where can one truly find unbiased and un-opinionated news? If I want commentary, opine and editorial, I know that I can come here to SI where I get a broad smattering of musings and stream of consciousnesses on a variety of matters.
Two weeks ago I was setting up for "a day at the shore" and three ladies set up next to my encampment: 4 grand kids, son, daughter-in-law, daughter and wife... They take one of those cheap Wings umbrellas with the pointy end and attempt to just stick it in the sand. Wind gusts about 15 miles an hour. I hear them talking about lack of shade and stability so I walk over with a little shovel dig an 18 inch hole and fix there problem. They tell me what a nice guy I am and I just say I'm trying to keep my significant others from an impalement. I tell them to invest in a shovel and a better umbrella. 2 hours later a storm blows through and everything that wasn't anchored took off down the beach.
Watching beach umbrellas cartwheeling down the beach and their owners chasing after them is one of the funniest things. Until today I had no idea that they could be fatal.
Vid posted here last summer - OCMD umbrella spectacle.. epidemic & epic. http://www.swellinfo.com/forum/showthread.php?27047-Oc-md

This is a public service announcement by the SI community: 1. Beaches tend to be windy. 2. Wind has the power to blow things around. 3. Unless you do not want your stuff thrown in the water (automatically), or even more tragic, to harm others, please tie (or secure) your stuff properly. EOM
Park officials are not certain that the man has died, though are presuming he did after rescue operations have failed to find him. Brilliant!
