I purchased this long board at Rocky's Surf Shop (closed) in San Diego back in 2004. It's a "Native Surfboard" made by a local surfer but I can't remember the name and I'm having trouble reading his John Hancock. Does this sig look familiar to anyone? https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1UXY1SrThNuaXVGdXhsMUtNQ1MyQTN4U3FyN2pjUHpJNG1r https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1UXY1SrThNuN05hd1BxTlZteXVOTnRiUkh0MXlmbE41M004 https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1UXY1SrThNubWZiVFF3czJnMDJHS05zUVYxSUpSVkhVREpN https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1UXY1SrThNuYnY5LXRwdERwUTNDZTUtdU9rd0VTeEpXaHlj I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.
Pretty sure that one's shaped by John Holly, a well respected long time Obecian/Cliffs guy in San Diego. FYI, I rode one of this guy's shapes back in the mid 70's...that's how long he's been around. One of my favorite boards, and he's locally regarded as an excellent shaper. IIRC, he also shaped under the Seagull label during the 70's when the Seagull shop was where Toby Pavel's "Choice" shop is now located. Pretty sure Hank Warner also shaped for Native, but since I currently own a Hanky, I can safely say that your board was not shaped by Hank, who was related to Bill Caster of Windansea fame during the Chris O'Rourke and Richard Kenvin years. Natives are considered pretty sick boards, you probably scored pretty good.
Cool, thanks for the info. I found this on youtube and thought you'd appreciate. Bird Surf Shed hosts the Safaris and John Holly for a surf, shape and jive day at the shed.
