Hi, I just got a new 5'6 epoxy board. It came with the wrong amount of liters I ordered and came with an extra 1.03. I wanted the board with 25 liters. I currently ride a board with 24.7 and it easy to get into waves. What do people think? should I send it back or is that extra liter and bit not the end of the world. thanks
righton, I think it is very gay of you to even ask that on this site. GET A LIFE, MORON!!!!! There. I feel better now. You??
if it's on the top end of your range, an extra liter can mean the difference between a "good paddler" and a boat. I would be pissed, too. If the shaper/company you bought it from is marketing volume as a selling point, they should have a system that's very accurate...even one liter off is an insult to the seller who based their dimensions partly on volume. Seems stupid they even listed the volume on your board. Unfortunately, returning it is a time consuming hassle...something that shaper banked you wouldn't do.
One liter means nothing. Nobody, especially not you water baby, can tell the difference. And, as being new to surfing( you would not ask this question if you were not relatively new), flotation is your friend, no matter what all the morons tell you.
I was assuming the OP knew the max volume with which he was comfortable prior to buying this board. Anyway, o.k., one liter may be a stretch, but I can feel the difference between my 33 and my 35 L boards. RIGHTON, surfboard shaping is an imperfect world...especially the more local/smaller co you buy from. If you bought this board from a huge corp (Lost, CI, Rusty, etc), they should've discussed what you need and followed through with the exact measurements promised...because they have the technology. If you bought from a local joe, you were naive to think he could deliver exact volume. Most local joes don't even discuss volume. If they do write a vol number on the board, it's most likely a wild approximation.
I doubt your gonna notice... I'm guessing most surfborts are rounded anyways. I mean - your saying 24.7L, I bet most surfbort company's would just say 25L , and probably call a 26.03 a 25 too. You know rounding- the 4/5 rule. Anyways- your not gonna notice. I would only take it back if you don't like the shape or there is some kinda imperfections You might like that extra 1.03 L with the extra wetsuite weight this wintere
That the volume was written on the board leads me to believe the board was cut from a file. No hand shaper has any business writing .0anything on a board. Maybe whole numbers if the board was designed in CAD, but not a hundredth of a liter. So if the board was CNC'd they should have been able to produce the volume requested... certainly within a liter. But that's the problem... if you ordered a board's dims and volume, and the shaper created the board in CAD, sometimes the numbers and the flow of the board, with all the contours, foils, etc... don't match up. You have to make adjustments to make sure all the different design elements work together. Maybe it's a liter more or less, and more is the better choice in most cases. However, with EPS you CAN go with slightly lower volume when compared to PU, so I'm really not sure what's going on here, except to guess that it was a non-domestic popout?
I ordered it from hydroflex. I waited 4 months and thought it was gonna be what i asked for. My current board with 24 liters is plenty and easy to surf knee high mush with. So I was kinda disappointed when I got it and it felt pretty chunky and not good under the arms. I already put the stomp pad on so I don't know if they would even take it back but for my size I think 26 liters is a bit much despite what some of you think
If you think your gonna notice- why not just call the company and nicely explain the situation- or right them an email nicely explaining that it's not exactly what you would expect. Maybe ask them if 2 L is noticeable. A lot of time when I called a company nicely about a complaint- they usually helped out. I have never tired with a surfbort - but it's worth a shot if your really unhappy with it and you think it actually feels chunky under your arms...
That is going to make it a totally different board that what you wanted. I would follow walkingonh2o's advice and ask nicely, but professionally, via email, and copy Yelp! so there will be repercussions in the marketplace if they do not make you , as the consumer, happy with your purchase. If you paid by credit card, you have recourse through your merchant account provider, and if you paid with an Amex card, you have a slam dunk refund. Otherwise, if you paid cash, maybe a large friend can expedite the situation.
You owe the forum the correct protocol. You know what to do. Unless you want this entire fing treadde thrown in the water along with your dignity.
these days, just saying "it's epoxy" doesn't say much. Did you order the board with EPS or polyurethane foam? If it's poly foam, then your board will float the same as a standard polyester resin board. If you ordered the board through Hydroflex, that may be the problem. You should always order through the actual shaper, not a rep at hydroflex. If you first talked to the shaper and he effed up the order, you should ask him "WTF?"
