Many useful buoy data stations have been added to the Swellinfo Buoy Data maps This thread is a Discussion in response to the following Swellinfo news Article http://www.swellinfo.com/surfnews/new-buoy-stations.html This article was submitted to the Swellinfo Surf News section on June 2, 2008
you should include the Corps of Engineer nearshore buoys that are right off Bethany and Ocean City, Maryland.
ya, I'm aware of this data. they don't have this in the standard NDBC data format, which complicates things a bit. But, it's my home area, so I do want to get this data, so I'll put it on the to-do list. thanks.
Micah, its prob gonna be tough to do...i know the Corps people who deployed the nearshore buoys, and have corresponded by e-mail with the NDBC and they mentioned that the Corps buoys don't put out the data in the NDBC format. You probably know dave legates or dan leathers in the UD Climatogy Program. They managed to serve up these nearshore buoys (and even convert the meters to feet) on the DEOS website: http://www.deos.udel.edu/current_retrieval.html Good luck with it...i've noticed that if you really start using the nearshore buoys a lot, they tell you a lot more about whats going on surfwise than 44009. Especially with the directional data they have.
I'm well aware of DEOS - legates and leathers, and my friend kevin run DEOS, and are in the department at UD in which I got my graduate degree from. I'll get the nearshore data on there.
