Hello there I ordered a new 6'1 short board from channel island off there web site and I read here that their glassing might be a problem. The board isent in production yet so I thought I ask around here first.Iam 186lbs w/o wetsuit and Ordered the glassing "team light".an employee from CI said that TL is not that durable and Maby I should consider a Heaver glass.

I probably won't be doing and Airs just my old school bottom turns small pivit turns and off the lip stuff. So should I change the glassing to there stock value?

Also anyone here have any experience with their board painters? I sent them some art work I wanted added, but I read on there site 1 person wasent happy with what they sent them to duplicate on his board.
    Thank you

You went the wrong way bro, at least for guys our weight (I'm 190). The correct box to check on that order form is the one labeled "6 on the deck please"

unless your an outstanding surfer..... then, do what you want and pay me no mind.

I always feel like the standard glassing with new boards (4oz) is like paper. But I don't shred and I like my boards to last, especially at $700 +. I think most on here would tell you to go standard at the absolute minimum.

Yes I see what you mean Team light seem like disposable surfboards.I can't afford that.Professionals get them for free..I just checked CI board builder again for a new Fred rubble and its seems they took away the two Team light options. Its just standard now.

180+lbs, hasn't surfed in 20 years, orders a hpsb off a website, orders pro-level glassing...yea, this is going to be an epic thread.

I'm a life long surfer and I have groms myself. I would just cancel the whole order and talk to a local shaper. It's not like Al is scratching this out for you himself. By going with a local company you could be starting a relationship for your little up and comers. Plus, you're supporting your local economy

If you want to get the CI rugged just order it with 6+4 oz deck and 4 oz bottom and it will be as durable as you need and weigh a few ounces more which won't matter to you because like you said your not boosting airs. People get so freaked out about CI glassing. they're using the same glass and resin as most other other boardbuilders out there that are making PU/PE boards. The CI 6+4 deck will be like other 6+4 decks (perfectly fine) except you paid $700 vs. the typical $500 - $550 for the local shape or virtually any other east coast plain white board.

I saw you said you ordered EPS. That will be even more durable with the epoxy resin. With EPS/epoxy you probably don't even need the 6+4 deck, but if you do it will very rugged and light, and so would a 4+4 deck.

    Agreed.
Also, CI boards are garbage. Years ago they were okay boards, just okay and nothing more. There are a huge number of shapers, locals and/or in California, that are far, far better and much more willing to make you a nice board. One example--Tim Bessell in La Jolla. Great boards, will do anything you want. just opinion, of course.

I scored 2 AI boards from Craigslist, both were $300 each. 5'10" Dumpster Diver, came with honeycomb fins a board bag and stomp, the other was a 6'1" Dagger. Both boards in mint condition except for a few heel marks. They both are 4+4 and I haven't had any issues. I also am 186lbs. I am not busting airs or smacking the lip like Wayne smacks his meat, so I don't see any future issues. Just my 2 cents, good luck!

You also havent surfed in 20 years, how do you know you can still just jump on a 6-1 at 180+ lbs? Go local or the CraigsList route til you figure it all out fur sure. Save your $$$

wait till you've ridden them for a bit & then clean the wax off. deck crushes galore!

    180lbs & up=6/4 deck at minimum

Yes, this is the correct answer.

You shouldn't order surfboards the same way your wife orders shoes.

I see really nice shapes for CIs in Brave new world and the 4+4+4 freaked me out a little. Now i will have to check to see if they are EPS.

very unlikely. an eps ci would prob. run around $800 off the rack. people ***** & whine about paying close to $700 for a ci. an eps one would be nigh unsellable.
