Have you checked out the loved ones? Great. Also Gaslight Anthem has been getting a lot of plays on me pod.
circa survive, saosin, death on wednesday (misfits meets morrisey), riverboat gamblers, the sleeping (sounds a lot like rise against)
I don't really listen to new music much lately. Someone mentioned Rise Against, and I got their newest album as well as all of their others. It's been out almost two years now, but I still dig it. I been listening to them for years now. Ever since they put out their first album. Seen them a lot, and they are great. It's very rare that I still enjoy music from bands who I love who change their style significantly when signed by a major label. Rise Against hasn't changed a much as some, but they have a bit. Regardless I still get into the new stuff. I been listening to a lot of Bad Religion, Suicidal Tendencies first LP, Minor Threat, Cro Mags[Mostly Age Of Quarrel] Sick Of It All, SOA, DRI, Circle Jerks. thats the stuff I been listening to for years. A lot of Hardcore Punk, and Crossover pretty much. It never gets old to me.
Dude, i agree 100%. Rise against is like my favorite band right now. Like, every track they have ever made is just SICK! It is the ultimate surf music. It makes me want to go punt one like 30 feet! I crank that up on the way to a session. Once I finally edit all my surf video footage, I am definately using a rise against track in the background. Its is PERFECT surf music. Gets me sooo amped. I didn't know who they were until about 5 years ago when I saw all these little kids with tight black jeans and rise against shirts... They get mad air play out here too. We have 3 real rock stations and at any given moment, a rise against song in playing on one of them.
i always like the fast beat music, but i also like to listen to: Rebelution Tribal Seeds Passafire The Expendables Iration etc...

Story Of The Year.....Boy Sets Fire......Funeral For A Friend.......Haste The Day (older) In Flames, Killswitch Engage...........and not even kidding, any Hans Zimmer, like a soundtrack going into battle..........
Right on!, I was a huge ST fan back in the 80's/early 90's. I just downloaded some of their old stuff lately and it still sounds great and holds the test of time. I still think they are one of the most underrated heavy rock bands from the 80's that gets little mention or noteriety....early stuff was more So-cal surf punk, later stuff more thrash metal then more progressive/funk influences, but they always we're unique and had great musicians in the band. Any of you youngsters should check them out if you haven't heard their stuff. I like Against Me alot. A few of the songs on their new album rock out! Rogue Wave is mellow but they are a good chill band. Another chilled band I just downloaded called Cloud Cult is worth checking out. If Slayer doesn't get you pumped for a hard chargin' big wave day, you might as well pack it in. Lyrics are brutal to take in by most of our society though.
I listened to about 5 or 6 of the newer bands recommended by some of you. You all have good taste, most all of the bands I found very respectable. I really liked Saosin and Riverboat Gamblers. Saosin has great harmonies and vocals. Riverboat Gamblers are cut from the mold of Aeorsmith, GnR, Buckcherry (so sleazy bluesy heavy rock). They have a good sound and songwriting to boot from the few samples I heard.
Man, I've never heard of the Mermen before (and they seem more from my generation from the 90's), but I checked them out on your recommendation and they are AMAZING! I'm going to download alot of they're songs. They're guitarwork is so smooth and soothing. I'm leaving for a long roadtrip in the morning (to Maine and Quebec from MD...no surfing though) so I'm downloading a bunch of their stuff tonight for the ride. Wife and kids don't do Slayer and Slipknot at 6am too well!!!
Is it just me, or is it hard to find bands now adays with many good songs? It seems like I'll find 1 really cool song by a newer band and the rest of their songs don't do much for me. Maybe I'm just more selective in my old age. It just seems like we're in another period of "one hit wonders" like the early/mid 80's to me.
hahaha I agree, early 2000's had some good break out bands, but now everyone gets a deal and it all sounds the same........dime a dozen
i don't think i've gotten into a new band in years. minor threat bouncing souls first 3 offspring albums samiam farside rancid texas is the reason the clash smashing pumpkins alice in chains sponge sex pistols the business the varukers blitz chaos uk exploited black flag agent orange gorilla biscuits youth of today sick of it all agnostic front quicksand fugazi social distortion the vandals thats what i've been listening to lately, but it's what i've been listening to forever. been on a real soundgarden kick lately too, but i can't stand their last two albums at all. some good songs, and quite a few clunkers on them. i been listening to louder than love a lot, and it's just really great. it's funny cause i got into them probably in 89 when that album came out. i never knew they would blow up, but i really don't like their last two albums. i don't care for them at all. my buddy plays them sometimes, and i just tell him badmotorfinger was really good, and their last great record to me.
