I am a beginner surfer at the age of 51 (better late than never) that lives in St Petersburg Florida. Looking for any people or groups in the that may get together to surf.

There will be waves tomorrow at Sunset Beach in Treasure Island, offshore early morning. You will need a 3/2 wetsuit. Theres plenty of room off from the main crowd to learn. Good luck!

Hey yellow dog! I started surfing two years ago at 59. Still using a 9 foot longboard which is great for beginners. Had my best and longest ride ever today! Have fun

To quote the little kid in Point Break, "Hey, man, a lot of guys your age are learning to surf, lt's cool. There's nothing wrong in it. Hope you stick with it. Surfing's the source. lt can change your life."

    Welcome to the ocean.

My first post. Good for you, Yellow Dawg! I started surfing last Aug at 57. Took a couple lessons. Picked up a beater beginner board from a local surf shop and a (clean) 2nd-hand wetsuit from Play It Again. Been going out thru fall and winter. Staying out of everyone's way as I struggled Many think I'm nuts. Drive around Va Bch w/beat-up lime green board on roof of Merc Gran Marquis. But just as many have been encouraging. Ibuprofen is good for aches & pains. Stretch before you go out. Getting out of a wet wetsuit can sometimes be a workout in itself. I swim laps in Navy base pool when I can't get out. Good luck, and keep at it - even when you think: "I suck at surfing". Persistence. Warning: it's addicting.
