I read a lot about how the ASP sux and is owned by the sponsors and judging is corrupted, and the repeal of the mid-year cut. I was watching the surline wave of the winter thing on Surfline and started to think about different ways professional surfing could be different. I thought that surfers could just get money for the sickest shots of the season instead of a waiting period. There could be a seasons MVP for each sponsor and best air and so on. It would be more like a team thing over a season more like football. Fans could be included to judge the submissions. The surfers will collect at the best spots on the best swells anyway. I was interested in others peoples ideas.
Well, that would be a good idea, if you completely wanted to get rid of competitive surfing, or only apply it to free surfers like Dane. I think the system that exists for competitors is good, it just needs to be tweaked in some ways.
Thats exactly what I was thinking! People like Reynolds/Bruce would have an outlet and there could be the tour for other guys that liked the timed thing. Just more than one game in town would be nice and thats what Martinez had said. Life is all about having choices, for fans and participants. I think it would be great if the ASP would allow surfers to participate in other things. Like opening up slots to more local wildcards, or wildcard trials, if other guys didnt show up instead of fining people. That way no more QS just a lot of CT contests with a more open enrollment.
