Yo bro, I feel for you, that's a strange transition...I will say that the further south you go the less cold the people get, generally speaking. Not saying ALL or Everyone, I'm sure there's some laid back people up there if you look hard enough. Good luck, and prepare to freeze your kahunas off. Cheers.

Yet we have some of the best hospitals, public education, highways, colleges, etc., in the country. But we can't pronounce our R's. I guess that's true. But we are smarter than folks from your part of the country. I guess that's true, too.

Internet tough guy. What does "way mo betta" mean? If you need help earning your GED let me know. I know some people who help illiterate people like yourself out. Great comeback calling me a kook. Creative and original at the same time. Whatever you do, please do not reproduce. Your offspring will have the cards stacked against them.

Where in mass did you move to this will have allot to do with your experience. You should try Maine or sea coast New Hampshire it's much better personality wise. And the further north you go doesn't mean the people get colder. In fact Maine is said to be one of the friendliest states. Massachusetts is a very strange state and it isn't friendly at all. Everyone is fast paced and not the types who develope nice communities. It's a dog eat dog world in mass. There's good surfing to be had tho in many different parts. Some south facing and east facing beaches gives a little variety.

Then why not head the frig home? Aside from the fact that you'd have to change your handle, of course.:D Let's reverse things: if you were from MA and moved to HI and acted as you are now, you'd get slapped. (you started this thread, disrespecting people from an entire state). If you're really a local then you know that's true. So why are you surprised that your experience has been so bad so far? Funny, I lived in Hawaii for a year in the 90s and even had a few pro mma fights there (it was called extreme fighting then) but never a single streetfight (and at 190 lbs., there were plenty of 300 pound locals who, if they were like you say they are, would've and could've pounded me just for being from Boston). So eff you, it's not like that. Give and get respect...anywhere. Period. Otherwise you wind up posting bitter stuff about your new neighbors which doesn't earn you any friends and probably exposes why you had to move away from Hawaii in the first place. Personally, I moved back cuz it was too expensive to live when I was injured and then was butchered by an ortho surgeon at Queen's, but that's another story...hope you can turn it around...p.s. and never go cheap on the winter wetsuit up here...never

No hard feelings, just calling it down the middle

Winter sucks. It's cold as hell. It's time for skiing/snowboarding in new england. That's why 95% of the lineup in the water is gone in winter. Because it's ass cold. He's coming from Hawaii. Might as well just take up another hobby in winter. It's like being a skier who loves powder and moving from utah to connecticut. You can get some good days, but it'll be 100 times more consistent where you came from.

I'm really sick and tired of people saying "winter is coming" so who cares about waves the rest of fall/summer/spring. As if this is the north shore of hawaii. It's the northeastern u.s. I have no use for 30 degree water and air temps in the teens to show how "tough"(crazy) I am. No thanks.

As far as the people go, I wouldn't know. I think people are generally the same everywhere. Some nice one's and a lot of not nice one's. I've never been to hawaii though.

I grew up in MA and now live in ME. What a difference 100 miles can make. People are awesome up here, and we don't like the mass-holes all that much. Funny how that works. Anyway, visit CT, NJ and NY (particularly Long Island) and you'll soon find MA folks to be just fine.

Yea that's a tough transition. Once you find a nice chill surfing community you'll fit right in, trust me. But yea, there's a ton of massholes up here. You probably are really thrown off though just experiencing such a change. I'm probably gonna move from MA to find a different scene and better surf as soon as I can..but it does get pretty good and consistent in the winter. I just don't like the cold too much.. Just try to befriend people who work at surf shops and stuff. The guys at Levitate are really cool and have a huge network of awesome people. Jamie O'brien and Cheyne Magnusson just stopped by the shop a few weekends ago too.Best of luck.

haha, agreed sir. you beat me to it. If dude thinks MA is bad then he has no idea what its like in NJ (specifically north where I am). That whole jersey shore crowd disappears after the summer and guess who deals with them the other 3 seasons? Me. Ugh

Yeah he's right. Give credit where credit is due. Though they don't have "some of the best" schools......they have THE best schools in the country....the world.....

ECSwell, dude, I dig where you're coming from, but this area of the east coast isn't the Outer Banks of North Carolina where everybody is a transplant. It's a tougher club to join. But just be cool and you'll get used to it. Yeah there are some attitudes up there but there are also some real cool dudes up there.

Don't let any arrogance or pompousness get to you.....just laugh it off. Plus, they are harmless up there. Like, they think Boston's a rough town, but it's not. You'll learn to deal with the snobby dudes and come to actually get a kick out of them. Really, they're funny when you view them with the right attitude....

best schools?? why? because they comply with 'no child left behind'? they had Mitt for governor for christs sake!! they cook the books. famous for that one.

colleges are all about status in MA and NE. they just pump out selfish wall st types, lawyers and bankers.

the CA schools (i.e stanford, berkley, UCSB) are far more valuable to society. doctors, techies, physicits etc... hell, the silicon valley is the only thing holding the US economy's head above water the last 20 years.

but there are some cool people in MA. not a lot, but they are around

I've been at this for YEARS so that's total B.S.

I don't like the cold and a lot of others are like me. Get over it. Nothing more annoying than east coast people on here saying "wait till winter" when talking about flat spells. First of all winter is less consistent than fall and spring as well as being absolutely miserable temperature wise.

God some of the people on this forum are so annoying/antagonistic(talking about multiple different threads)
I think I'm going to give this rest for a while. Goodbye.

Shark Hunter please start surfing in the winter.

The cold is very nice. Wetsuit very nice these days. Such moody nice time in winter. Grey clouds, clean surf......very nice. Ahhh heater on foot........steaming hot shower........warm bowl of New England Clam Chowder and a grinder with Lays potato chips......

Getting to the beach on a Friday an hour before dark.......getting slotted and throwing spray.......cold wind on your face awakening the senses. MAN you feel alive in the winter. Then you go drink Sam Adams with the local town folks at the pub....talk aboot the Celtics or whatever youse guys do.

Ahh being the first to set tracks in the fresh snow.......
Getting spit out of a cold green(chocolate around here) barrel.....
Talking to seagulls on the beach......
Watching thundering Nor'easters plow into the beach...........taking a drive somewhere that works on such conditions.....hey try Frisco.

Dude, winter is the season for the surf romantic. Very nice......very nice.......
