Hey guys I have surfed a few times in the past years but just this summer got addicted and have been surfing pretty frequently, so i thought i should introduce myself here. My names Alex, and I live/surf in Southern RI (mainly narragansett, pt judith area). Im pretty good at snowboarding so the surfing has been coming pretty easily and Im really getting hooked. I am looking for a good board to buy at the local shops near me for a price that wont break the bank, especially since its my first board and I dont need and wont appreciate anything special. Currently I dont own any boards but I have been using one my brothers old boards, A spoiler fish (6' 4" x 21ish" x 2.75") with a thruster fin setup. I have also tried a few of his longboards that he owns. I really like the fish shape and for my first board my plan was to pick up a fish with a future fin setup so I could rock the thruster or quad fins. After looking at a few of my local shops for used boards, and also looking on craigslist, it looks like the picking can get pretty slim when you are looking for a specific board. A helpful guy at one of my local shops recommended this board here : http://www.torq-surfboards.com/fish-66.html The board is a 6' 6" Torq Mod Fish with a futures fin setup. The board seemed really solid and good quality in the shop when I was feeling it over. I am about 5' 11" and 170 lbs so I think the 6' 6" board would be a good fit for me. The shop says that I can rent the board for a day, and If i decide to buy it, they will sell me a new one and subtract the rental price, which sounds like a nice deal. They are selling the board for $425. I have done a little research about boards and I like that the board is epoxy and seems like it will be really durable and still be able to ride in a variety of swell from knee high and up. So I am really leaning towards this board (after I rent it and see how I like it) but If any of you guys know anything about the board or have any other suggestions I should look into, I would appreciate any advice. Any thoughts or comments about the board are welcome too. Thanks guys, im looking forward to being a part of the forums here. -Alex

quote: just this summer got addicted to surfing? that's really cute man. I mean its like you just got hooked are you talking about surfing or smack? I don't know who you think you are just coming and posting up on here, but let this be known you are the lowest form of life on this forum...you are even lower than whale **** and there is nothing lower than that. I think that you getting a fish suites you because you wont be able to stand up and all you will see are the fish in the water. come down to the south bro and ride some real waves. I bet you shred real hard on that 6,6
Personally, I wouldn't buy an epoxy board as my first board. 6'6" is a little short to be starting out with, normally.... I think your best bet would be to find a used board about a foot more in length, funboard shape. you'll have an easier time learning, and when you move to a shorter board, you'll always have the 7'6" as a back-up. Just my $.02.
