I’m curious to your thoughts on the alpha fins vs the premium futures. Sick board btw!

I haven’t tried them, yet. I usually ride mediums and these are large, so I am curious myself. I’ll try to remember to post when I get to try them. Thanks!!

You ever hear of "surf n show"? It's a YouTube channel, dude noel reviews boards. Good stuff. He rips and is knowledgeable. Anyway, he's always saying how he's 150-160 and should ride mediums based on weight, but rides large fins alot for extra drive. I got in contact with him awhile back ti discuss this. As i ride mediums but am on the border of small/mediums. Came to the conclusion that by going with mediums im effectively doing the same thing, and by going with larges it'd just be too much fin for me. Anyway, my point is depending on your weight you may like the extra drive you get from a larger fin.

I’m def going to try the large! Hoping they don’t make that big of a difference so I don’t have to go buy all new fins. Ha Ha

    Very nice boart.
I picked this up like 2 weeks ago (CL score for $200 with fins and leashe) and love it. D24BF6AB-B6EF-47E6-B1C4-2062B83CB395.png The boart also came with some Alpha Fins (same as yours), but I’ve yet to use them. They are medium but I like Large fins better.

Anyone want some medium Alpha fins in excellent condition? $40 obo

I'm bigger than average, so I'm in the Large fin size range for most fins. I will concur that they add drive, but definitely tighten up the feel, especially off the top.

Like everything, it's a compromise... and personal preference depending upon your surfing style. A couple things that have worked for me are...
    • you can get more drive out of a fin with more base without going bigger in area
    • you can get more drive out of a fin with more rake without going bigger in area
    • you can get more drive out of a stiffer fin over a flexier fin
    • you get more drive out of a fin with more tip area
All of the above will let your fin release better than going up in size (increased area), but still add at least some degree of increased drive.

This has been my approach. Sort of. At 140 i could ride small or medium. I'll ride medium fins but I'll go for a more upright or flexier fin. Basically if I'm riding the bigger size, everything else outside of size will be geared towards more release. Depending on board ofcourse. Havnt really gotten crazy in depth to compare as fins are stupid expensive. But it works for me. Funny thing is i started riding mediums just because. And always felt i had good drive. Id like to go back to smalls just for experimentation sake.

I have small, medium, and large fins. My weight and the wave size determines what I’m gonna go with. Lately I’ve been on mediums. I have a smaller fin I run in weak surf. If there’s juice out there I might go large.

I really like that. That's essentially the type of board i ride. Looks just like my 5'8. What's the dims and rocker like?

Definitely one of his sickest shapes. Dims are 5’9” 2.5” 19.5”. Kinda similar to my Dreamcatcher, but more pulled in nose, tail and more aggressive nose rocker with a slight flip. Moderate tail rocker. Single to spiral vee.

It’s super fun in punchy barrels. He shaped it for himself, but I rode it a couple weeks back and didn’t want to give it up.

Won’t be long and I’ll have my new toy. Just waiting for it to be finished. 5’8” twin fin Retro fish with modern tweaks. Probably the most challenging boart I will own to date.

Finally got to ride my new toy today. It paddles really nice, But it took me a minute to get it dialed in. Surfed IRI in 3-5 close out surf. Not really fun, but I was really excited to finally get this thing in the water. I didn’t stay there long and then I left to check a couple more spots. Found a spot not crowded and paddled out. All I can say is, wow, had some of the best surf I’ve had in a while! Found the sweet spot (that’s what she said) and this thing rocks!!! I’ve had a little more beer and food lately and the ocean let me know today. Ha Ha. Surfed until the legs felt like noodles. Good day!!!!
