Delmarva Surfers: 2 Nearshore Buoys have been added to the Station Data maps off of DE and MD. BTHD1 - Bethany Beach, DE OCSM2 - OCean City, MD This is definitely good news, and is nice to compare to the offshore buoy, 44009, if it ever comes back online. These buoys are very close to the coast, so will be very useful. The buoys will show up as red circles on the map, so just hover over, for wave height and wave period data.
Since it's a new buoy thread...any chance you could add AUGU2 (Augustine Island), AMAA2 (East Amatuli Island Light), HMRA2 (Kachemak Bay Reserve), and FILA2 (Flat Island Light) to generate a forecast for Kachemak Bay, Homer, AK? http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=auga2 http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=amaa2 http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=hmra2 http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=fila2
Its pretty cool to look at the nearshore coastal buoys as compared to 44009. For example, right now 44009 has a swell of 5.9 @ 14. The Bethany Buoy shows 3.3 @ 13, and the Ocean City buoy shows 3.9 @ 15. It is nice to note the Swell Info forecast is right on target as compared to the nearshore buoys. A lot of times, people consider one specific buoy, many miles off the coast as what is going on at the beach. The example today, says a lot, since 44009 is 20 miles off the coast. The swell is not as strong by the time it reaches the coast.
