Hell yeah on the flashbomb. Normally I wear a 5/4 for winter up here, but long story short I bought a 4.5/3.5 because I was drunk and in a surf shop. Suite kept me warm all winter though. Hell we had icebergs in the water like 2 winters ago and I was toasty in the flashbomb. Granted that one was 5/4
Happy Birthday Bassmon. I hope you score this weekend! Nothing like birthday waves. Especially at that 'new' pseudo-secret spot out by you.... what a trip man
Ive had us divers bodygloves billabongs gotchas, lot of oneils,1 driduck , quicksilvers, ripcurls ,2 baileysuits (which were great suits but heavy) back in late 70s ,oceanapparels and xcel which i now have a backzip 32 and two chest entry 4 3 s and are very nice suits for the $.the best thing is of coarse the flexibility and weight of the new suits compared to old style neoprene suits which could add 10 pounds or more to your weight and would make yu work more to compensate.
Happy B'day brah. I don't know how cold the water gets in Central FL, but I can't imagine it gets much below the mid-60's? I don't even start with a 4/3 until the water gets around 57 over here...and even then, I'm probably too warm. Of course my 5/4's are both front zip, with all the goodies. I have 2 4/3's, one is a front zip glued taped etc. The other one is a three-quarter back zip, which is much easier to get in and out of. And, it really doesn't "flush" any more than any of my front zips. Wetsuite technology is leaping every season. I would recommend either a front or back zip...just make sure it is a *quality* suit with taped seams. Also, current suits seem to tend to have really low necklines that flush like mothertruckers. I look for higher necks that are lined with the rubber-type neoprene and have a stitched collar at the top. Seems to really reduce flushing for me, personally. Or, you can just go order some cheap Hyperflex online. I keep one for those warmer days where the occasional flush is welcome.
Thanks, it's actually an anniversary gift though, my B day is in April. Good tips though. As far as water temps, its usually in the 60's during the winter but it has dipped into the mid - upper 50's on occasion. Air can drop into the 30's - 40's a couple times a year too. Throw in some wind and a 3/2 is barely enough at times. With boots and under layers of rubber I'm good year round, no 4/3 needed.
Ah fark I didn't know it got that cold there. Bust out for a top notch 3/2 or a solid 4/3, I'd say your conditions would justify either purchase. I'd personally avoid layering, not my personal thing.
Yeah dude, but most of the time it's not too bad, but I have witnessed snow flurries twice in my life here in FL, and then there are those times where sh*t freezes. Not often but it can happen on occasion. I already bought the 3/2 I posted so I'll report back after I get a chance to use it. No 4/3 necessary with boots and under garments, although I have owned one before.
That sucks Barry. Winds were NE here around 10mph, not the best direction but close enough to offshore for me. Fun little stomach/chest high waves. Hope you get some DP!
Hoping winds will let up this afternoon. Waves seem waist to chest, some perhaps a bit bigger. But very disorganized. I guess I am getting fussier in my advancing age. At least I got out yesterday for a couple of hours.....
