Haaay, new to this crazy forum. I joined to seek some advise on board size, fins etc. but of course wanted to say hello first. I live/surf in central FL and try to go out at least once a week. I usually ride an 8'6, but sometimes go 9'2. I'm 5'3 about 120 lbs and was thinking about going smaller but still good for FL waves (fish maybe?). I'll be checking out some of the other threads before I start bugging everyone for advise. Thanks! Oh, and I'm a chick.

Welcome Jolly!! Depending on your skill level, i am sure you could drop to something smaller.

Hey Jolly, welcome! Orlando area here, there are plenty of good boards being produced by some awesome shapers in the area that will accomadate to your mushy wave needs. Have fun shredding!

Thanks, I've been surfing for about 13 years so I'm not a beginner although I feel like one at times. I haven't surfed on anything smaller than what I have now. I've been checking out Neilson and Starr.

That's the kiss of death around these parts. For anyone to say that they're not new to surfing. Prepare yourself for mostly useless advice force fed to you over and over. The regulars here are pretty much just regurgitating what probably has been yelled at them in the water by more experienced surfers.
The best advice you can get here is don't take too much advice from people here.

My frien had a shorter board made, looks maybe under 6' but it's wider and rails a bit thicker. She can ride it even on really small waves and yet it will duck dive bigger waves. It's a miracle.

I'm a good surfboarder. I know because people often say to me in the water and say "Hey man, you surf great"

Jolly, maybe check out a Lost Puddle Jumper or the Couch Potato. A lot shorter but they have the width and the volume. Might be fun boards for ya.

Siren Surfboards does boards for wahines. Kristy Murphy and Jenny Flannigan, both great surfers and all around A list type people, started here in Jupiter, Florida and moved out to the Hill in CA and have Joel Tudor helping them produce awesome quality boards for females. They have hooked up with Channin to design a nice 7'6" hybrid called the Sol Desire. I'm sure it is pricey and needs to be ordered custom.

They kind of mentored my daughter when she was learning to surf, and they also do cool clothing and stuff.

Check out their site and give Kristy a call, she can give you good advice.

Just because you got owned & demo'd by the SI Crew for posting your idiotic tale of drop-in woe doesn't mean you're welcome to hijack Jolly's tread.

Change your own diapers & put yourself to bed, bradtwitted.
