New to surfing...whats the best website for up to date surf reports for northeast Florida, Fernandina north? When looking at a surf report whats good for a 8ft longboard? I've only been surfing twice I fell in love and bought a board....any advice for a beginner?
for wave hight for a longboard would be from knee high to anything above that. but for reports i cant help you on that.
surf guru and fluid groove are pretty good sites for n. fla. So is swell info Only advice I could give is learn in less crowded areas, go out in smaller surf to start out which is very common on the east coast, learn to get up quick, and get a bigger board for control at first.
Find a buddy with some experience to surf with. Also, there are many how to surf videos online. Some of them are helpful and some aren't. Watch surf videos and other surfers to see how they do it. Once you get good at paddling you can ride a longboard on just about any wave assuming it isn't too close to the beach (you don't want to hurt your fins). Make sure not only to look at surf height, but also the condition of the wave (glassy, bumpy, etc). There is a big difference between waste high chop and glassy waist high. Get out as much as possible and experience all different types of surf. The hardest part is reading waves. Once you pop up on the board, the actual riding part is pretty easy.
