Smells like another hit-and-run swell that isn't going to happen... I need surf, bad. Maybe it's me, but this year feels like it has been pretty weak for waves. I got lucky enough to catch the last swell in both Jersey and OBX and that has just left me jonesing for more like a crack addict who just finished his last fix and can't find his dealer. East Coasters almost expect there to be one swell after another in Sept and Oct and this year seems like it has failed to deliver. I depend on Sept and Oct to hold me over through the winter when the shorter days restrict me to mostly weekend surfing. What's the best month for Rincon, PR, January or February? I think I need to plan a trip.
Puerto Rico can go nuts anytime from Fall through Spring. Its hard to say for sure, but it seems like the late winter may be the most consistent time.
dont get excited yet....remember the overhead jersey was supposed to get a week ago that turned into ankle to knee in a few days....
Yeah, many of the islands rock from Nov - Feb - Just like North Shore. It seems they get the right winds during this time even though the swell window is much broader. You doing any trips anytime soon?
Looks like the offshores will be howling. Let hope the switch happens after dawn and not overnight or we may not be left with much. Trying to stay optimistic, but I'm doubtful. We get burnt by an early wind switch all too often this time of year and it's only a chest high swell at best. Not nearly enough juice to hold through 20kt offshores. Common, how many of you have been there in the fall. It's raining and winds are howling from the south all day. That night you're drinking with your friends. You keep walking outside to make sure the wind hasn't turned west yet. Then around 1 am when you're good and buzzed you go outside to find the wind switched and it's ripping from the west and just know that there will be nothing left the next morning so you go inside and throwback a few more to ease the pain. Next morning you walk up to the beach and find clean knee high waves being held up by 15 kt offshores... If this swell does pan out I will make a sacrifice to the surf gods to show my appreciation. PFS
Just got back from OBX. I'm thinking Jan or Feb to PR. I go to PR about once a year for work, but I'm always either too busy to surf or there's no swell. So, I know the island well, I just don't know the surf. The gf wants to go PR, so it's a good excuse to get out of the cold water.
**** PR goto the CR cost rica baby you can find some amazing surf there and its fun and usually always there food is great people are nice im telling you find a spot got for 2weeks talk to the locals you can have a blast
will this friday be rideable or end up like last thursday and be too messy until the clean up later at nite?
i'm thinking weak wind chop for friday... lets hope a little more beef appears for saturday. looks like a bit of ESE ground swell could help things along as well on Saturday.
And now the forcast is reduced to knee to waist... good thing I'm a pessimist. Can I go back two weekends please??
I wish it were that easy. Unfortunately, the surf gods are only appeased by taking the life of a Maryland kook on the altar of Hank Williams Jr, while watching NASCAR and drinking Budweiser. Any volunteers?
Right now it's looking as if sat. will be a good day to pull a DP. But it's still a little far off to tell. We've gotta get some consistancy sometime, it is fall afterall.
