too early to tell my friend... looks like maybe some south swell potential for the end of the weekend. We plan to extend the swellinfo orecasts out to 7 days by summer time.
south wind fri. The key is when the wind switches west and cleans it up. If too early and there will be nothing saturday. hope for an early sat morning switch
ha surfers almanac. A seven day forecast is pretty ambitious, but its probably about as accurate as weather.com's 7 day forecast. Its good for giving a general idea, but it seems you cant definitively expect good conditions till they >24 hours away.
7 day forecasts are much more reliable on the west coast as compared to the east coast, since the swells are generated much further away on average.
yeah pretty amazing thinking about the difference in both swell forecasting..swell trains coming in from 5000 - 10000 miles away and wind forecasting...land breeze/sea breeze day in and day out. Its gonna be a real challenge doing 5-7 days out on the east coast...possibly more realistic to just generalize those days instead of the a.m. / p.m. thing.
weather i know it's not mr swellinfo's fault but i don't get excited about a swell until it is guarenteed less than 24 hours away and even then I really don't expect everything to be just so until I'm dropping in, but that's the east coast and that's what keeps it interesting here always on your toes
ya, after a while of analyzing the east coast weather, you become aware of the fickleness of the weather models and thus the accuracy of the extended forecasts. Despite what any meteorologist may tell you, the forecasting industry is majorly influenced by these models. It is understanding the uncertainty of these models which creates good forecasters. In my experiences, every region has its own intricate nature for forecasting surf conditions, but the east coast certainly has its challenges. For southern california, on the other hand, the offshore swell data isn't too difficult to predict, but the offshore island shadowing and refraction processes are the major players.
