nicaragua is a great surf destination in the South swell season (summer)... I'm not positive about March, but it probably wont be as consistent or as big as when the southern hemi gets going.

Also Nicaragua isn't a party destination...

I'd suggest Costa Rica, Playa Jaco/Hermosa area or Bocas Del Toro Panama.

thanks for the heads up. the only reason we are looking at march is because my friends brother is still in college and we have to go off his spring break, or we could wait til summer.

know any places with some nice lefts?

Nica has some great lefts as does some areas of CR. I can;t give away the secrets of Bocas. :)

Just got back from two weeks in Nica - surfed Popoyo, Santanas, Playgrounds, Astillero, etc...best waves I've ever had hands down everyday. SwellInfo is right, go to CR if you want to party..... PM me for details....Also, wait for summer, biggest swell and more consistent.

    The spot

The family went in on a house in San Juan del Sur, easy access to a lot of beaches, cool town but still in a Nica neighborhood. Easy to get to and a lot of recent renovations.

Check it out and hit me up

We can work something out, how long are you looking to go?

Two brothers surf resort. Has a ton of reviews on trip advisor and they are all good. I'm going there november 11 - 17. The place looks amazing and the family that runs it are so nice.

if you wanna party, go to San Juan Del Sur, Granada or Managua for a night. the Popoyo area has the most surf camps/hostels/etc. the more north you go, the less people in the lineup and more searching youll have to do. theres great waves all over the country.

This dude is absolutely right. There is partying but not like Jaco or Tamarindo. I went last March and it was killer. Stayed in San Juan del Sur and had a boat guide everyday. We went right past all the crowded spots like Maderas & Santanas to our own favs with very few people in the water and sometimes just us. Hotel owner fixed us breakfast everyday & packed us lunch. And, the boat guides had us fishing offshore between sessions. PM me for more details.

Been to Costa Rica (4times), Puerto Rico, and Dominican - this was totally different, but in a good way! Headn back this winter sometime myself. Oh yeah.... the winds stay offshore all day most of the time b/c of the lake.... won't find that in most other spots.

Same here, 2 weeks in the beginning of August and it was overhead the whole time. They were out of the Hilux, I settled for a Daihatsu Terios, I beat the piss out of that rig!

You should check out Nicawaves.com. The surf camp is walking distance to Popoyo and a short bike ride to Santana. The owner (Mike) and his family are super cool and will show you around the area. You can stay in the dorm style room for $4 a night or you could go big and get the 2nd floor rooom which can sleep 4 people for $30 a night. I was there last March and it was firing, I think the smallest day was head high. And of course, offshore winds all day long. I've been to Costa 4 times and never scored as good as I did in Nica. As for chicks, well good luck on that one, you are basicly in the middle of nowhere. Sometimes the Surf Santurary, which is right by Santana, gets some chicks that hang out there, that's about it. But just go to their website nicawaves.com and see for yourself!!!
