Cocoa Beach has better waves on the reg than Jerzy or Rhodie. Way more surf culture too. You got Ron Jons, which is open 24/7 . The friggen owner fled from NJ cause he was tired of the cold and the Mob. Cocoa Beach, or "Cocoloco" as the locals say, is total core. Surfable 360 days a year (if you have a 13' shred sled it helps for those summer lulls). The Cocoa Beach Pier "The Pier" as the locals call it, is the mecca of fine dining, fashion and party music. Snookie ran away from home at 12 just to hang out. Who else can say they hosted a famous TV show (I Dream of Jeanie - Barbara Eden was sooo hot in those PJs)? Nothin like being hung over from a late evening shopping fest at Ron Jons, then paddling out at The Pier during a shuttle launch - a religious experience I tell ya, especially if it lifts off early am cause the colors are so cool. The surf contests, no...SURFFESTS...are a display in all that is pure and good about East Coast surf culture. You don't see any of that at Ruggles or Pt.J or Sandy Hook ar Belmar, do ya? And we got friendly locals who are literally giving away free surfboards on the beach. See that in Jerzy? Doubtful. Maybe a few guys selling second hand boards on the cheap out of the back of their truck cause it just fell off the rack and got dinged, but no actual free surfboard giveaways. And Cocoa Beach welcomes all the tired, homeless, unwashed surfers from all over the Dirty Souf, and even Dirty Jerzy. I am not from Cocoa Beach, and I haven't surfed it in years, but I am getting awfully riled up reading all this stuff about how great it is up north, so I felt I had to get this off my chest so I don't snap the next time I paddle out in chest high epic surf and someone almost gets in my way.
