NJSurfer 42, Stranded in Smithfield, OiPaul, Erock. Hell, even the guy who said he paddles out with a knife every time he surfs....
Surfing kind of weeds out the weak ones on its own. As in nature, there is a hierarchy. Survival of the fittest. It's something inside all of us surfers. Hard to explain. Like Kelly said, a two wave hold down is a badge of honor. Lol
Welcome! I'm so glad that your now part of this threade ! I noticed that your a new junior member- have you ever considered starting a hello threade to properly introduce yourself? You know- what kind of surfbort you wave ride? Where you ride waves? What kind of waves you like? What's your favorite color? Did you ever surf Belmar (best waves in the world) and finally do you like to pee in your wetsuite? Oh yea- do you know how to tie a leach knot?? Looking forward to hearing more about you, Your new pal , Mr Belmar
Never saw this before, this is basically the best thing I've ever read. Never before have I wanted to travel back in time to fight so many imaginary people before. Or throw their sh!t in the water. Or whatever.
Problem is, by the end of 39 pages... and counting... I wasn't really sure anymore... why I was mad, who I agreed with, who I disagreed with... All I know is I've accomplished jack sh!t at work so far today. I am a fairly big proponent of the idea of paying your dues as a new surfer until you can surf well enough and understand the etiquette well enough to earn your place in the lineup. And of an unwritten code of respect and etiquette being (in most cases loosely) enforced by the older/more established locals in a given spot/area. I don't think, at least around here, that enforcement should escalate to the level of an actual a$$-kicking or broken board or slashed tires or anything that significant, except in the direst of circumstances (i.e. someone is or is very nearly seriously injured as a DIRECT result of someone else's ignorance/incompetence). Fortunately in my experience it rarely does escalate to that degree... granted I don't really surf the most photographed/marquee spots in the area, but I have been out plenty of times in the summer with 100+ other people I've only seen one propere a$$-beating in the water in almost 20 years of on and off surfing (neither delivered nor received by me). I definitely agree with the overall idea of NOYA, but somewhere between pages 3 and 30 it became highly unclear what that even means in regards to most of the sh!t discussed in this thread...
