bayhead was pretty crowded as usual.waves weren't that big,not really good for jersey.lots of closeouts, and I seen my last secret spot standing was being replenished today.these guys cant take a day off work, come on now
It's breaking pretty good in Virginia Beach right now, but 8° wind chill...F that. Call me a wuss, I don't care.
surfed in mtk all afternoon alone... swell had a little north so most of it was missing us but a few ropers where coming in....
I went this afternoon with a buddy of mine. I didn't see one other person besides us as far as the eyes could see in either direction.
The best wave I saw was made of snow, Lucy agreed. I passed, it needs to have real nice shape to deal with 17 degrees with a wind chill of 1 degree. Emass, skip it. Save your mojo for Cal. It's not like you don't know if you're getting waves, cuz you is ! I didn't take any wave pics today because it was uninspiring, but here's a snowy right hander and my dog partying:
Thanks! Two spongers made it out and promptly drifted out of sight (one with no hood, unreal, I can't even imagine). Speaking of drifting with the current, why does it seem like people here in MD won't paddle to maintain position? It's weird to me (as is the lack of "woo" when good sets roll through). Maybe it's just the Florida in me, but the habits here are sometimes odd to me.
There were some definite big cold barrels coming in today in north central jersey. However it looked so powerful that there's no way I could duckdive the set waves. It was -10 with windchill and 39 degree water temps and overhead phantom waves occasionally coming through. I was like "Im not a wuss for not paddling out today." Then I saw an acquaintance charging with 2 of his buddies on the only lefty break in the area. Now I feel insignificant and lame.
i went out from 12-4 at croatan. it was fun but it wasnt that great. it sure was cold for those four hours. i had to look for my nuts after haha!! im glad i waited until some of the ice melted on the rode though. i slid into a ditch literally as i turned back on to my street coming home. luckily i gunned it in reverse and got out. that was almost more exciting than the surf haha.
anyone think thursday morning will be worth it? Sometimes 2-3 ft can be super fun, and sometimes it'll be flat. This circumstance with fading swell is the norm, and I can never make up my mind. Any suggestions, for OCMD? the period looks a little large for the beach break. Probably going anyway.....Long live the stoke
Just go give the waves a check. Im in the same boat as you could go either way, only way to know is to go check for yourself
here's a little clip from today. first time ive ever surfed with snow on the beach
My hat's off to ya, 757. Too cold today for this old man. Wanted to sneak in a sesh off Dam Neck after work yesterday before the storm hit, but it didn't work out. Made it in to work today though. 20-25 mph along icy Lynnhaven Pkwy this morning. My sons go to ODU and TCC but had no school today.
i went out thursday... ying - righteous two footers; nice form + direction, 4 guys total out. yang - the first 30 mins ok, then the 800 pound gorilla in the room took over….
Here are some pics from this afternoon near your OCMD location today. It was just small goofyfooter perfection and I couldn't get on it due to ear surgery last week.
the more pics I see from md and va the more I think jersey sucks.is it because they didn't do beach replenishment down there.the waves are small in the pics above but perfect form.i see thick hollow barrels down there, and some pretty big sets too.
