i know Belmar has been getting solid head high to slightly overhead waves the last few days...but in Long Branch it seems like nothing but waist high chop...anybody know why this is or if N. Monmouth will see any waves....i really never saw something 10 miles away seem so differnt..
yeah they face more east then down there and dont handle the best on long period swell plus alot of the sand bars are ****ed up
I grew up surfing only Sandy Hook. When we finally got a car and drove 15 miles south we nearly **** ourselves over the difference. Could be knee high at the hook, waist to chest in Long Branch and head high in Belmar .
There is always a lot more variability with the longer period swells, because the offshore bathymetry (bottom depths) play a bigger role in refracting the swell -> focusing the swell towards certain areas and not others.
theres definitely a big difference...every spot has its days. I surfed in deal this morning, was chest high and sloppy and really inconsistent...checked it out in the evening, was barely even breaking waist high so i drove a couple miles down checked out lock arbor and there were overhead sets rolling through...was well overhead by the time it got dark
