i was actually in the water in nj surfing when 9/11 happened . i could see the smoke , then later ashes where falling . i will never forget that day , too surreal . I can even remember swell size , how clean it was, the street i was at . Seeing the smoke and dust from so far away was crazy . At one point dust and ashes where falling , it was something i don't think i can ever forget .

Lame attempt at "fancy" writing. This is what this dude teaches? Yikes.

By the way, having to be at work at 10 is a ridiculously easy problem to solve. Get your ass up at 5am, throw **** in car (include work clothes), be in water at first light, surf for several hours, shower at work (colleges have gyms), then teach your stupid class. What an asshole.

Huge ahole. We all remember how the surf was that day. Some of us felt a little guilty but hey what the hell were you going to do, sit around and watch TV. It was a memorable day in many ways. Just surf and shut the hell up.

I was home with my 2 year old son playing legos on the carpet in front of the tv. I got up that morning, checked the surf report and was pissed I was missing it. What a beautiful day that was, it was that first weather break from summer to fall. Zero humidity, clear blue skies, offshore wind and perfect waves.

I remember work letting us leave because I worked on a Govt. installation. I remember going surfing that day.

I was already off that week so I surfed that morning and did not find out aboot the attacks until after I was done. The weird day was the 12th. No air traffic. Smallish leftover waves. No one around because everyone was still glued to their TVs. Very eerie. Even at 39 I wanted to re-enlist and kill the people responsible. At the same time having that weird feeling of loss. Strange day indeed.

Exactly....first fall NW winds that summer, blue skies, PUMPING surf. Well overhead sets. I paddled out mid morning, with no idea what had happened.

Why didn't he go surfing? It's not like he had anything better to do. If I didn't need to be at work until 10, I'd dawnie every day, regardless of conditions or geopolitics.

I was early-20's and they kicked us off the base after the second tower fell. Down in Cocoa Beach we got a reinforcing swell after the hurricane faded. It was offshore, glassy and chest-to-head all week, and we weren't allowed back to work for about 3 days. I didn't have TV or anything at my apartment so I just went surfing all day, every day. 7-to-8 hour sessions.

" But it was 8:45 a.m. and my friend was supposed to have arrived at 8:30" Wow.....he's a real charger....
I flew to VAFB in California on the 10th with a leatherman on my belt and tools in my carry-on. Came down to the breakfast hall in the hotel and saw it on the TV. Both towers were burning by then. I asked two guys if they were watching a movie and they said "no, the news". I was not allowed on base for the next 3 days. A sucky day in history for sure.
