I'm traveling to Oahu on vacation and looking to surf. I'm probably a beginner- intermidiate. I mostly surf shortboard. I'm staying on the south shore and the west shore and was wondering if there are any surf spots that aren't to crowded for me to surf at.

Start in Waikiki...crowded but lots of beginners & Intermediates. It's tough to find uncrowded waves anywhere in Oahu but it is really spread out on the south shore and there are alot of spots. You can surf Queens, threes, fours, etc. If you want to step it up from there try the breaks in front of the beach park (Tennis Court/Concessions), in front of the Hilton (Rockpile, In betweens (not Bowls)) or the Diamond Head breaks like Lighthouse, Cliffs (but longer paddle outs at those spots).
Curious where you are staying on the West side...not many tourists stay (or even go) there. Waves are generally more localized there and can get quite big in winter.

Stinkbug, I am going to stay at the Ko Olina Hotel. It is near the disney resort. On the south shore I am staying right near diamond head. I'm looking to go on maybe a surf tour with someone in Hawaii. I guess first I will surf waikiki or maybe diamond head.
