http://www.delmarvanow.com/article/20100916/NEWS01/9160368 according to the daily times - beach repleneshment starts this saturday and will affect beaches from the Delaware line down to 15th street
Staging area In OCM is up around 139th street and in the bay behind Assateague at the inlet where the pipes are. Sort of biblical in a way- the "foolish man built his house upon the sand." They've erected the surveyor's offshore tripod uptown. It's kind of a cool offshore dunebuggy in a way, a three wheeled tripod that drives along the sandbar offshore. It would be a fascinating news story for someone to get up on that thing with the operator to see exactly how they do it. http://www.frf.usace.army.mil/crab.html It looks top heavy, but it's tires are filled with liquid and powered with hydraulics and achieves a top speed of 2 mph so it would take about 4.5 hours to drive from the DE line to the inlet. And it does this all with a 53hp volkswagen engine. Too bad it's not an engine from the Porsche' division. It can be used in waves of up to 6'. http://www.frf.usace.army.mil/vehicles2.stm
