thanks. I am trying to work around to the photos of people pitted. However, as giving as I would like to be I am not giving away 100's if not 1k plus photos never seen, of individual persons. Pennies on the doallar is more then fair. everyone goes away happy.

It may sound like a a backwards way of thinking, but as a surf photographer it seems like you'll probably need to "give away" (AKA post online) a bunch of photos before people are really willing to pay you for them. If others are unfamiliar with your work and you're unwilling to share the best photos, how will anybody know what you can do?

That said, I like the photos you posted. Wish I would've been there on those days...

Cool. I wasn't aware of that and was responding to your above post in this thread. By no means was I hoping to offend you and I apologize if I did. :)

Like I said before, the pictures you linked to above look really nice.

    Copyright issues

The key is to post only low res images so they can see, but not likely pilfer high res. Online can make a 72dpi image look decent, but if you try to take that 72dpi image and enlarge it for printing, it looks like crap. If I'm posting online I re-size the image smaller, drop the dpi to 72, and save the new file as a reference file copy by adding an "a" to the end of the file number. Thus, _DSC1191.jpg, becomes _DSC1191a.jpg and they stand side by side in your original folder. It's easy enough for you to remember which is the high res, and which is the low res. And if you'll message me your home address, I still owe you $15 for the high res image you sent me at Christmas. You do some nice work and I apologize for suspecting that "SC" was not the same person as "xgen70," but I too value intellectual and creative property rights, and you're entitled to yours.

I can fully empathize with your concern about others using your images without permission or compensation. Not long after I posted this image that I took of Drex Harrington
[IMG] imagine my surprise when I saw it being used to solicit advertisers for Swell Info by none other than Micah, and I never got so much as a "Would you mind if I used this?" If he had asked, I probably would have said yes and been flattered, but there's something flat out wrong about not even asking. I sent him a note and have heard nothing in return, and that shot was taken in 2007 during Hurricane Noel. Copyright laws matter, in spite of, and maybe even because of, the internet.

sorry to hear about the above pic MDSurfer. very few pics around showing OC holding size and clean. In the early days I posted a Picture to Surfline and they used it for an Ad for center top on their home page. So yes, a simple "Would you mind if I used this?" would have been the right thing to do, like you no one was asking for anything, just some basic respect.

over the years i just assumed everyone knew that xgen70/sc is the same person, both here, on surfingoc.com and on delsurf.com If you did not know, my bad...

I gave a 13" x 19" print of it to Crazy 8's at K-Coast along with a montage of Hairball in a tube sequence and the 1968 Weber team from Spyder Wright's Surf Shop. They were stoked, and so was I, and I footed the bill for it. What was I thinking? ha.

I think I have seen that Hairball sequence. They are all great shots you deserve something for them. The one of Drex is once in a lifetime shot of this area. Anyone from outside of here probably thinks that wave is breaking way outside. They don't realize that wave is breaking super close to the beach by big wave standards which ups the heaviness.

"Bra?" What's that all about? You mean like. . . "A dyslexic man walked into a bra."
