Sustained warm offshore breezes, and you have the horseflies, deer flies, and swarms of black biting flies (look like houseflies) chasing you out into the water. Bite right through the rash guards.

The black biting flies were so bad at my beach today that I stayed out in the water even after it went flat

    Good tread, C

Last week, those blackflies at TPTSNBN were on a blood mission. Their mission, my blood. As DOSXX noted, those fukkkers went out to the lineup, biting my back through an O'Neill insulated LS rashie. Several times I had to slide off my boart & stay submerged to get relief. Like a bad movie.

When I went to my rig in the lot, people were in the lot slapping themselves & cursing. One kinda porky dude trying to get his gear stowed in his truck started slapping around his own head whilst staggering off towards the showers. He totally resembled that dude Warren in the movie 'Something About Mary.' Pretty funny to watch him yelping & staggering around, I gotta say.

Here's what worked, though. I got out the trusty TPTSNBN gun, aka flyswatter, and started killing 'em. After about 50 confirmed kills, they left me alone. It was like a fly emergency broadcast system alert went out. That was it, they didn't come near me & I could pack my gear in peace.

They were bad today (but not as bad as earlier this week). I had to fight off about twenty over two hours while sitting friggin outside waiting for waves. Literally waiting on the boart to attack. Fukkers. And I managed to get two green head bites while getting changed back at my ride. I hates them all!

They seem to be a NE/Mid Atlantic pest. They're a focking scourge right now.
Hey man, how's the little one doing? You getting any sleep yet? How is Fin getting along wit the baby?
Shoot. Sometimes I actually miss having a little one around. Made me an honest man.
Now, I got a smelly middle schooler just hitting puberty, a high school senior who's attached to his girlfriend (henpecked), and a 21 year old who can't keep his pecker in his pants. (two pregnancy scares with two different chicks) the apple don't fall far from the tree.

Little one's doing great brother, thanks for asking. Took her into the ocean yesterday for the first time, holding her of course, but waded around with her for a bit.
Dude, so proud of Phin he's been such a good boy, he's so shy around her...totally gives her space, and will give her feet these shy little kisses with his ears down in submission.
Baby's sleeping through the night mostly, maybe one overnight feed. My ass ain't getting any sleep for a while, 2:35 wake up tues thru saturday. But it's good, I'm working on my disciprine. And that schedule may change soon.

Man, I could just picture you talking to your boys, tell the oldest to wrap that ish up or get snipped!

That's awesome that you got her in the water. I remember those moments.
Figured Phin would be all good, a good owner makes a good dog.
Just remember, at 2:35 AM, Cinemax soft porn is your friend.....

For reallz. I went on an ATV tour of Portsmouth Island (the next one south of Ocracoke) many years ago in October. I have never experienced so many voracious mosquitos. They were attacking the roasting hot engines of our ATVs when we stopped to walk into the village. Even with 100% DEET they would still land on you. I don't understand how people could actually live there at one time.

ha its something else isnt it? you just drive down the road and your windshield is covered. i work at night and am in my car i have aboot 40 bites a night, state bird here is the mozzie in sc anyways. Honestly SC and NC are fked suck to even go fishing this time of the year. Florida honestly doesnt seem bad at all and they spray here almost every night.

Yeah, I was thinking it was funny that all the posts here are aboot biting critters up north and not Florida. Now we do get plenty of mosquitos and the no-see-ums can be unbearable but they're only around when there's no wind. I mean we have snakes in the Everglades that eat alligators but biting bugs are not our biggest issue. Man, I do remember those big green head flies from the days of my ute at the Jersey shore when the wind blew offshore. Those bastids can eat my f*uck!

Hate to admit it, but I'm kinda looking forward to mellow onshores for Saturday if that helps keep the vampires in the bulrushes.

After killing 50+ of the basterds in a few minutes, including two who were humping one another on my longboart, I'll never cuss onshores again.
