I'm not a fan of any team, so I really could care less... But if you think that loss doesn't drive Brady and the Pats crazy you're nuts. 1 game away from perfection
Have you watched any interviews of any of the Patriots players and coaches in the last 15 years? All they talk about is staying in the present and moving on to the next play after both successes and failures. Any dwelling on past failures (rather than identifying causal issues and fixing them) enables history to repeat itself. Scroll up to see what the Patriots have done since that loss that only Patriots haters still think about. They hated the stigma of carrying an undefeated record that whole year. So did the Cowboys and Saints 5 years ago when they both went into the late regular season without a loss. All any team or competitor who's even close to being a contender cares about is winning the last game of the playoffs. They don't give a damn how they got there. The Giants were 9-7 in 2007 before that playoff run when they won it all. Do you think they or anyone gives a damn now that they were barely over .500 and almost didn't make the playoffs? Most people don't even know that about the Giants that year now. Success is all about meeting and overcoming the present and then the next challenge your faced with. Individuals and groups that achieve goals at the end of long paths don't get to the end by stopping in their tracks in dismay or looking back fearfully. They reach the end by keeping their focus on every next step. Eli Manning and the 2007-08 Meadowlands Mutts aren't even entities to the Patriots right now. If they're thinking of football at all (and Bradichik mos def is), it's what stands between them and the Lombardi at Super Bowl L. That's Super Bowl 50 for you non-scholars. No one cares bro. Only the haters and the losers or the has-beens. 36 hours from now, Brady will be ballz deep in the skin of the female you cats only fantasize about and the rest of the gang will be living large in Disneyland, Vegas (Gronk, obvi), or somewhere else with the people that mean most to them telling those people that this is the best day of their lives. But not before they parade down Boylston St. tomorrow in Duck Boats as the skies puke American-colored confetti for America's Team while the only thing parading down Main Street of (insert name of any one of the 31 down in the heels 'burg towns that aren't hosting Lombardi tomorrow) is a front-loading commercial vehicle with the words "Waste Management" plastered on the sides. Did you hear the sound in the Seahawks locker room when Pete Carroll was being interviewed post-game? That's right. Silence - the sound of broken dreams going to the afterlife. Meanwhile, more oversized bottles of Cristal were being popped in the Patriots locker room than bottles of peroxide to bleach Bosworth's hair during his tenure at Oklahoma University from '84-86. metard, can you please insert your trademark GIF of that chick from that movie making the "no one cares" face please? It's most appropriate at this juncture. Thanks, breh. FLY A BANNER FOR THE PRESERVATION OF NEEDLESS KEYSTROKES FROM HATERS THAT DON'T MATTER
Yes. I remember that sound from both times the Pats played the Giants in the Superbowl. Pete carol did seem sad. Maybe it's because he didn't have his daughter on the field to make out with... Gronk has to go to Vegas, but Bill keeps the good stuff right at home.
I don't care what they say. Not having a perfect season when it's so close eats at them. Of course they say that they moved on. If you buy that, you probably bough Brady's "I have no idea how the balls got deflated" speech.
Bi-Stater, have you ever been at the elite level of anything? I ask that in a serious, non-judgmental way and if the answer is no, I honestly will think the same of you and no less. I have to ask because if you have competed at the height of any specialty, sport, or anything similar, you'd be more familiar with the psychology of excellence (an actual academic discipline) and know about this present-based thinking and the need to move on to the next challenge with full focus. Having put a life to being at an elite level myself, I'm very familiar with this thinking and have also researched it at length through independent study to benefit my pursuits. Brady and the Patriots aren't just one-percenters. They are the top one-hundredth of one-percenters. They think and operate in a completely different way than typical human beings. It's hard for typical human beings to relate to and understand that thinking, just as it's similarly difficult for Brady to conceptualize how an average 9-5 individual that doesn't seek excellence in anything thinks and acts. Both mindsets and value systems are mutually exclusive and foreign to each other. Brady holds the record for Super Bowl rings of any NFL Quarterback, or player, in the history of football. He's at the apex of nearly every post-season and Super Bowl passing record (not that he gives a damn about those). There's very little he feels devoid of at this point after how Sunday went. He's enjoying this, but briefly before entirely focusing all his efforts on winning his 5th title. He cares not who they beat from the NFC to do that next year or any year. Do athletes remember names of players and teams that beat them and have a chip on their shoulder until they meet them next? Sure, while they're on their way to the top. Once you're the apex predator, your opponents and prey are faceless and all focus goes completely to remaining at the top. Believe me or not bro, but this is how it is. Btw, I thought you weren't a fan of the Giants. Why the hard-on for this debate then?
Your Patriots have been consistent no doubt but any average NFL football team (Texans, Bengals, Eagles, etc...) would have won the putrid AFC east division title 9 out 10 years. It's EASILY been the worst division in all of football for a good decade. It's just hard to pull for or like the Patriots. You've got your smug autistic coach in Belichick, Meat Head Rob Lowe....I mean Rob Gronkowski, so many cheating scandals it's hard to keep up with along with that pie schedule it's just gets old after a while. Congrats on the victory though. It was an all time Super Bowl!
Good post NICA. But elaborate on the "pie schedule" please. The Pats had one of the toughest schedules this year in NFL history and they didn't just beat 6 division leaders in the regular season, they more than doubled up nearly all of them. It was an annihilation of the NFL's "best" teams all season long. And yet again, they were plagued with injuries. Also, did you see what Buffalo did to top teams in the league late in the year? That division is hardly limited to the strength of its teams' records. Those teams despise each other as much as any other divisional rivalries in football. Games between them are unbelievably competitive. The Bills hired Rex Ryan while there was a bevy of available coaching talent availabe to hire, because he knows the division's opponents. Funny call on Meathead Rob Lowe for Gronk, but he may be just as much Bro Rob Lowe lol Can't tell me there's anything to hate about Edelman and Wilfork, among others.
Yes, I know and the NHL is like the only sport I enjoy watching. But that is now all about money. They change to the rules years ago made the entire game one big power play. Let them play 5 on 5 and don't call every bogus penalty. MSG used to have die hards now it's all corporate tickets, there isn't many diehards anymore except in the nosebleeds.
Do the have the parade in Boston or Burlington, VT or Portland, ME or Newport, RI or Portsmouth, NH. How do they decide?
Hey man, at least we still have our parades within our geographic area. New Jersey has two football teams and the tri-state area is too embarrassed to acknowledge it. The Giants' parades must have been held in East Rutherford, right? Just recycling your ignorance and improving upon it.
What I mean by a pie schedule is every season they can bank on, at very worst, a 5-1 record in their division. By far and away the best quaterback they ever have to face is Ryan freakin Tannehill. I think that says it all. Now I do like Rex Ryan going to the Bills with that defense but I think he's proven to be a one trick pony. He should of went to Atlanta (if they wanted him) where he would of at least inherited a legit qb. It's kinda like the Colts now in the AFC South where they are guaranteed a playoff spot every year. No, I actually like Edelman (and Wilfork). Gotta respect any white dude who can ball. I did however forget to mention A Hernandez in my rant. I know it was a few years back but still.
Dude, it's when you say sh*t like this that I have to wonder what f*cking planet you are from. Patriots are great at football. They would have been the greatest dynasty ever if it weren't for the Giants, which are another respectable organization. Pat's may yet end up the greatest, but in the midst of it, the Giants beat them. Twice. In SUPERBOWLS. Not championships, not division titles. Superbowls. Anyway... what did you reach the elite level of? Badminton? Javelin? Or something relevant like football? I know you drink your own Kool-Aid, I'm just not sure of the flavor. There's people who put a life towards being elite at Starcraft and getting the perfect score in Pacman. They drink Mountain Dew and jack off incessantly. Is that part of the psychology of excellence? And no, I have never been at the elite level of anything, except maybe being a cynical d*ck. For what it's worth, the pursuit of knowledge means nothing if it's only for the sake of personal improvement.
Lol bro, since you mention it, what was that comment really worth? I don't think it was worth anything aside from a good laugh. It actually came at a cost to me of 4-5 seconds of my conscious existence that I shall never recoup. Enlighten us on the altruistic endeavors that you've made your calling after seeking knowledge to gain leverage to serve with. You are truly rivaling the Peace Corps these days, as you sit behind the cracked LCD monitor of a mid-2000s PC bought at a pawn shop as you pilfer the neighbor's unsecured wifi, and tell us how it really is. You hate society, bro. You sure as hell would hate it a lot less if more than 8-18% of its denizens even contemplated self-improvement efforts let alone embarked on them long-term. Seriously, bro, how is one to ever give another person anything they have yet to provide their self with? Improve yourself via pursuit of knowledge so you can one day assist and lead the betterment of others through your acquired scholarship, experience, and trial and error. What a concept!!!! Giuseppe, instead of daydreaming about what I or any other Sweller possibly does with their waking hours, how about you focus on your next step in the journey of life? Who knows, you may even realize the lasting benefits of this self-betterment psycho-babble. Ah, nonsense. You're right, bro. The pursuit of knowledge only means something if it gives you the means to mislead, deceive and pilfer others - entire nations even, or engage in some other good for nothing destructive endeavor. "Being the best you can be" - HA! That's just, well, dumb! Glad you informed us of that earth-shattering news update. In that case, you have no business commenting on a discussion of the psychology of excellence whatsoever. Anything you say can and will be interpreted as being spoken by the teacher lady from Charlie Brown where you just hear a "waaa, waaa, waaa" phoneticism. Thanks for the needless keystrokes though bro. I didn't even read your post aside from what I just put in quotes. Btw, Slash, because I do like you deep down and think you're capable of some future contribution to the gross domestic product, know this: If your girl is anything worth having, she may not have left you yet, but the countdown has begun. Any cat that isn't bringing home a crumb of bread each day/week sure as hell ain't agonizing his old lady's dopamine/oxytocin by being jobless AND cynical while believing they're likewise omnipotent. I mention this because I care bro. Me not reading your post til the end (but knowing its likely contents) is proof I've had enough of your less redeeming attributes. Imagine the opinion of such from someone who has to clean up your physical garbage and not just listen to it, potentially house and feed you, AND be responsible for your coital satisfaction. C'mon brah, the customer sure as schitt ain't always right but don't think they're stupid and lacking in free will. Mrs. Slashdog been window shopping for quite some time now because of your nihilist, self-righteous, self-loathing, universe-loathing act. Unless she ain't worth having, and then she's probably a contributor to your status quo. Hope you get stoked about something at some point soon, bro. Really mean that.
Thank God my Falcons didn't scoop up Rex! I actually think the dude is a good sport for his cameo portrayal of a Bradyphile in That's My Boy, however, I'd rather he not be at the helm of either my two NFL teams. You see Edelman at yesterday's parade? Hilarious. Bro is a king of men. My good buddy threw Gronk a tight spiral of a ball that Gronk caught on the duck boat. He proceeded to sign it then spike it in signature fashion on the street before my bud retrieved it. How good is that?! As for the AFC East being crap, na man, at least not recently. It's just full of parity. All four teams were ranked no lower than 7th in the league in SOS last year (http://www.predictionmachine.com/Strength-of-Schedule-Rankings). It's not like the Pats walk over these teams each and every time out. It's often not easy. Buffalo last year was 9-7. Yeah, they spoiled themselves late with a loss to the Raiders but that was just after beating the Packers, narrowly losing to the Broncos and steamrolling the Browns out of olayoff contention. They also beat the Lions earlier in the year. There were far worse divisions last season. Nothing is easy in that league bro. The Pats just make it look easy many weeks. Any given Sunday. Average point differential of 3 points in the league over the long-term. That's parity.
Just came across a few nifty statistics: Since the NFL went to an 8-division setup in 2002, the AFC East is ranked #1 of 8 in record for non-divisional games. Patriots are obviously #1 by a landslide, with 76% victories outside their division. No other team is close or within 10 percent of that record. The rest of the AFC East holds its own independent of the Pats - if you take out the top team in each division for non-divisional record since 2002, the remaining 3 AFC East teams are still middle of the pack (#5 of 8) when you put their cumulative non-divisional record against the bottom 3 teams' non-divisional records from all the other 7 divisions. Secondly, since 2002, the average number of teams that repeat as division champs the following year after winning a division title is only 3 (of 8) each next season. The patriots have won their division 12 of the last 13 seasons since 2002. The only year they did not, their record was 11-5 and they tied for the division crown in record but lost on tiebreakers. Incidentally, Brady got hurt week 1 that year. Thought you cats may find those facts to be of interest.
No, just really wondering where they have it. That's a pretty large area. Why not include Novia Scotia too. It is pretty similiar to East Rutherford and New York but they are called New York Giants/Jets and that is where the parade is. They aren't the Boston Patriots, so I was just wondering. Boston is only a step higher than Philly, both white trash.
The parade is in Boston for the same reasons of logic that yours are not within an uninhabitable area of New Jersey. I enjoyed your reasoning that teams should be named after where they have their parades; it's very cute. Great dig on Boston at the end. I hate the actual confines of the city as much as anyone, but to say Bostonians are just white trash is laughable. Thirty years ago, sure. The affluence and money moved into town a long time ago. White trash can't afford to live there. Come for a visit sometime, I'm sure they'd be thrilled to have you.
