What's the big deal? They have a solid plan.... Throw some plastic on the toxic ash and cover with a little soil. Problem solved. Like it never happened!

An old native American was once asked what he thought of what the white man had done.

"Before the white man came we hunted and fished all day and had sex all night. Now the white man has no time to fish or hunt and wife won't have sex with him...Stupid white man."

Disturbingly true for a huge amount of our hazardous wastes. Lined landfills that eventually are capped. And to make matters worse, they are really starting to run out of space for lots of it. I work in the environmental consulting/cleanup industry, and costs are rising because impacted soil, especially the really bad stuff, often has to get shipped hundreds of miles or more for disposal. A lot of the tech they have to try to treat soils and other materials is super expensive, and while on the one hand, I agree with the thought that if you make it, you own it, you pay whatever to clean it right, but there is so much legacy contamination, especially in the early industrialized places in the country, that you can't really pinpoint who's at fault and/or they're probably dead by now.

The end of that obviously not being applicable to Duke Energy. They're around and well and polluted the hell out of that river. Clean that sh*t up. And the heavy contaminants in there are a b*tch to clean up, at least oil floats and you can boom it off.

Water was clean and clear today off VB and noticeably warmer. Will enjoy it while I can.
