On the bay in AC. Perfect weather. 2 days. VIP access. Festival included: Mettalica (ride the lightning in full nite 1, black album nite 2)+bonus (ONE and a few others) AX7 Suicidal Tendencies (all time fav) Arctic Monkeys Cage the Elephant Sepultura Volbeat Sword Ghost ****ed Up (actual name of band. Amazing.) many many more.... I took my 15 yr old son to his first real concert experience and it blew his mind.... We got mingle with the performers (they were just wandering the infield all day...) It was the best example of the music culture I love that I have ever seen... every pit was HUGE and insane but every slam, every punch, kick, whatever was met with a smile a slap on the back and a smile... every man that went down was helped to his feet by the same guy who wrecked him... and we did it again... all day long for 2 days.... This was the best time of my life and sharing it with my son was the greatest gift ever! and my son got to see where his dad got his rep ;op 50,000+ having the time of our lives... To take it a step further, although the waves sucked they had a surf demo on the beach... we got to paddle out with Rob Trujillo, the Caballero brothers, and others. (They were being TOWED into 1'-2' slop but was amazing to watch... all smiles.) Vans Skate demos all day, Jim Brewer Comedy... BTW>>> I am a live sound engineer and have done sound for some greats... (Misfits, MOD, SOD, Mucky PUP, SoulFly to name just a few) I don't count those shows, I don't get to really enjoy it and let go; its work. I want to give a shout out to Murder League All-Stars, SHAT band NJ, and WRENCH NYC. Check these bands out if you live in the NE. They play oput all the time and check'em out if they are in your area. I cant forget Anthrax - backstage with my buds who were opening. IN-F%^&KING_SANE 1981: Ozzy and Randy Rhodes @ Capital Theater in Passiac NJ. I snuck in the load in door with my uncle. I was 7 years old. I've never been the same.
So many shows that some of them run together but a few memories / highlights: 1. Topless (female) chicken fights in the pit at the Guttermouth Shows 2. Dave from Vandals pulling down his pants and spanking himself with the microphone as Warren the Mutant Boy played the guitar with his bare ass 3. Meeting Davey Havok and Hunter Burgan from AFI, dude bit a guitar pick to give me his dental imprint as his "signature", drunk moment. 4. Getting kicked out of the Good Riddance / Strung Out show for kicking some clown in the face with my steel toe Doc Martens and laying him out in the middle of the Pit, then sneaking back into the show to watch the rest of the concert 5. Getting on stage and singing along with: Tim Armstrong from Rancid, Warren The Mutant Boy from Vandals, Greg Attonito from Bouncing Souls, and Chris Demakes & Roger Manganelli from Less Than Jake, and a few others I can't remember.
I've seen thousands of shows (literally) since first show-Jethro Tull in 1974. But one of the top 3 of all time was last weekend--Lockn' Festival in Nelson County Virginia. It was epic. Check out Lockn page on fb for pix. It was incredible.
Jimmy Cliff Toots and the Maytals The Wailers Black Uhuru Steel Pulse Third World Eek a Mouse Ziggy Marley Damien Marley Julian Marley In my southern rock years: The Allman Brothers Marshall Tucker Bank The Outlaws ZZ Top Charlie Daniels Band
My two favorites are Pancho Sanchez (very small venue) and Phish...hard to argue with Phish live. I was never a huge fan, but wow, Pearl Jam plays a really good show. My one wish would have been to see the Dead w/ Jerry. And no, I don't wear a tie-dye wetsuit.
since you name yourself sup instead of surfboard, now i understand=what do your top 4 numbered, listed highlights have to do with actual music? and i guess #'s 2 and 4 you list were not to be missed, plus your steel-toe boots seriously hurting someone.you sound nice.
Led Zeppelin (1977 - Capitol Center - @sisurfdogg no riot played 2 sets +encore) The Who Rolling Stones Jeff Beck (all time favorite guitarist) Grateful Dead Allman Bros (post Duane unfortunately) New Barbarians (Ronnie Wood/Jeff Beck put together a tour group 1980ish) Judas Priest (w/ Iron Maiden warm up) Molly Hatchet Foghat Root Boy Slim and the Sex Change Band NRBQ Atlanta Rhythm Section Nils Lofgren B52s Big Audio Dynamite Ziggy Marley Burning Spear Al Di Meola The Gaithers +plus many others, small pub bands, etc., that I can't remember because it was quite a while ago, especially those a "conglomerate efforts" such as Fourth of July on the dc mall, etc.
No, you don't understand... clearly. My screen name is just that, a screen name, deal with it. As for my highlights that I listed, those have everything to do with Punk Rock MUSIC and the shows I attended. Maybe you should go to one and see what those shows are like and then maybe you would get it. As for the steel-toe boots to someones face, well... all I can say is he deserved it for acting like d*ck and hurting others (females included) in the pit. So yeah, I am a nice guy, many thanked me taking care of what the bouncers should have done in the first place. Anything else sunshine?
Ready for the ridicule, but the Goo Goo Dolls used to put on a great show, before they went top 40 ballads. Saw them at the Stone Pony a couple times in the early 90s. Other than that: -The Ramones (at the old Tradewinds) -Social Distortion -Hoodoo Gurus -Catherine Wheel -Paw -Dramarama -Three favorites from a few Warped tours: Face to Face, The Flatliners, and Longway Have to agree, Pearl Jam puts on a good show. Also saw, INXS shortly before Michael Hutchence died at Tradewinds. Small venue, thought they might mail it in, but put on great show.
I was at Lollapalooza in '92 also. Perfect weather that day. Just the calm before the storm though. Glad I lived in Palm Beach County since we only got some tropical storm winds up there. Bad scene down south.
sorry,sup.really.just don't see how injuring people is fun.i also don't get how guys taking off their clothes to simulate sex with their instruments is music.i like punk rock, but you're right,i would not like nor did i ever understand mosh pit excuse for violent behavior.and if i was screen name sponger or handplane or longboard i'd just be asking for it,since i only ride a surfboard, contentedly.so most everyone assumes you're all about sup,not the other.calling me sunshine is not very original,is it?did you surf today?best swell in months here.
