Old school shortie single fin question

    It depends upon whether one is after the ride quality or the retro look.

    I rode shortboard singles from 1975 through to 1998, and the usual 'dolphin' type offerings have some drawbacks, they are one reason why single fins went out of favour. Spitfires work much better. If getting a conventional fin pay close attention to how it is foiled. It's not just about the plan shape.

    Another is that the board type is typically overly narrow and thick, with thick rails in the middle of the board.

    As for very long boards mentioned in the comment above, let those who have ridden huge heavy boards in all conditions cast the first stone. It takes some nerve, muscle, and skill. If legends USA were doing it many here would be all dewy eyed.

    Roy, are you referring to the Jacobs being narrow? The G&S is much wider through the tail and overall wider than the Jacobs.

    In looking at the foil of the fin, what do you suggest I consider? TIA
